Vogue Without Scratch & Sniff?

Apparently Conde Nast is in trouble (not surprising given the effect of the recession on just about every corner of journalism), but to give up Modern Bride and Gourmet magazines entirely??  GOURMET??  I love Gourmet, I think I have almost every one of the annual books they publish.  This news is devastating.

What’s even more devastating is this article’s hints at Vanity Fair and Vogue possibly going digital.  Hey, I’m a geek from way back when primordial geek soup was just simmering, and I hate it when I can’t find a book I want to read in digital format; however, I want to hold my fat, perfume sample-stuffed fashion bibles in my tiny little hands and have subscription flutter cards fall to the floor every time I turn a page.  Some things in life just have to be shared on thick, glossy paper.  They just have to.

Read it and weep at Reuters.

Hmmm, I wonder if Anna Wintour will have a garage sale.  Now that’s what I call a platinum lining… I’m SO there.
