HAIR'S A SURPRISE: GUYS PREFER BRUNETTES
By BILL HOFFMANN June 30, 2003 -- Here's a real blond bombshell - it turns out brunettes actually have more fun. "Gentlemen do not prefer blondes. They prefer brunettes," said Dr. Kelley Kline, who studied sex appeal at Florida State University. "It's kind of an interesting finding, considering that in our society we concentrate on the blonde - it's so pervasive." That means stunners like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Courteney Cox and Penelope Cruz have the edge over such beauties as Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz. Kline's findings were based on interviews with 50 men on the appeal of various female facial characteristics or body types. She and her team also discovered that both guys and gals like long, luscious hair compared to shorter cuts. "[They] overwhelmingly find the long hair length significantly more attractive than the short and the medium hair length," Kline said. She said the biological imperative to find a healthy, fertile mate may explain the finding, at least in men. The findings were revealed at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Society, in Atlanta. |

*giggles* Once waaaay back in elementary school, this guy I was sweet on told me he wouldn't go out with me unless I bleached myself blonde... I kind of lost my cool and ended up breaking his thumb by mistake :-/ :-[
I've definitely never beat up any guys over my haircolor since (or anything else, for that matter) and I wouldn't reccommend it... but if he's reconsidered his position, maybe it was worth it ;) But yes, it's a comfort to get some press for us darker ladies. ;D |

btw, my darl saw a great docu about the whole brunette vs. blonde thingy in men's heads. turns out most psycho analysists agree men see great mothers in blonde women (not difficult, easy character, angelic) and great "lovers" in brunettes (very sexual, strong character, from hell in other words).
me loves being a brunette ;D ;D and i think it musn't be just a men's thing. for some weird reason i could never see myself blonde for the message it kinda carries, although from a pure esthetical point of view i do like blonde hair too. |

Whoa ::) $7K for a pair of big boobs! I balked at $5K for a pair of tooth implants, and at my age they are alot more functional than big boobs (okay so big boobs aren't about function anyway, maybe "important" is a better term!). Tells you where my priorities are anyway. LOL

Ho Boy do I ever agree - but to be fair, she feels really good about them and they do look great (yes, I HAD to see them *snork*) not at all like the hard ball with ridges you see on celebs sometimes - the doctor is a top notch reconstructor...g

i suppose she had the expensive procedure done: under the muscles, no coconuts that is. my (utterly shallow) cousin had them done as well. she payed far less though in belgium (or she's lying not wanting to admit just HOW shallow she is).

Now this was something of a huge surprise to me - but no, he choose to do them above the muscle; apparently you can get something called a double bubble if you go under the muscle and the sag is extreme; also seems to depend on how much flesh the person has from the shoulder blades down.
Her recovery time was only one week for back to work and she was running within a month - albeit, with a much heavier duty bra ;D ...g Oh Shoot - I don't want to try to move this and loose it ::) - so let me just say - she has very nice brown hair that's longer than the boobs, well, you know what I mean ... Yes, and men do like her hair 8)...g |

On dateline or primetime or some show like that I heard that women trust brunettes more than they do blondes not to steal their signifigant other. I think blondes are perceived as sort of innocent and unthreatening by men, and just the opposite for women ;)

I tend to agree with the general preference of long hair over short, but the whole colour thing is a crock, in my experience.
I have known, dated and even married men who preferred blonde, red and dark hair. Unfortunately (for them), I do not fall into any of these categories. :-/ But everyone has their own ideas about what's appealing to them. Trust me. ;) |
Title: Re: HAIR'S A SURPRISE: GUYS PREFER BRUNETTES Post by jessieofcanterbury on Jun 30th, 2006 at 11:08pm
All I know is that my husband "claims" he prefers brunettes over blondes. I think that most men really do turn their heads to look at blondes but when it comes down to settling down with a woman, they don't necessarily employ the same attraction tactics.
I'm 47 and have never in my life had the inclination to dye my hair blonde, never been jealous of a blonde, never been attracted to a blonde man. However, I did dye my hair black when I was 18, I have been jealous of dark haired beauties and my husband has dark blonde/light brown hair so there are exceptions. ;D |

I think that most men just turn their heads to look at women in general, no matter what their hair colour. It's not their hair that catches a man's eye...trust me. ::)
Everybody has different ideas about what appeals to them. Some men prefer blondes, some prefer redheads, some prefer dark hair (I have never once heard a man say he prefers light brown or dishwater blonde hair). They're called fetishes. But unfortunately, fetishes usually don't point you in the right direction. Of course it's idealistic, but if everyone looked past what's on the outside, their odds of finding someone they're really attracted to, on a deeper level, would be much better. Real beauty comes in all colours. ;) |

Angel Spun, I totally agree with you. For all my insistance that I never liked blondes, I married one and that's because he was he best man of any I have ever met. Hair color had nothing to do with it.
It is sad that some men and women date only their color, length, weight, nationality preferences, they are truly limiting themselves and if that's all that interests them, then they'll never find true happiness in any relationship. |

I think its extremely true, cos I am into Brown/black haired guys way more than blonde/red, etc.. 8-) |
Title: Re: HAIR'S A SURPRISE: GUYS PREFER BRUNETTES Post by Jerry on Sep 23rd, 2007 at 12:15pm
Being a guy, I am torn between brunette and blonde but red hair will always be my favorite hair color, especially if it is long 8-)
It would be interesting to go out and do a poll and ask guys what their favorite hair color is on ladies. And, when I look at a lady it is usually because they either have long hair and/or what they are wearing. After that, I will look at everything else. But, I have to admit I have seen the back of what I thought was a lady but it turned out to be a guy with long hair :-[ Jerry |

WOW!!! That was interesting!!! I have very dark brown hair, the mediterranean type, and in my country women are convinced that by turning blonde they will appeal to men more than staying natural. i don't know maybe I should migrate to more friendly climates :D
