Waxy Buildup?
Jul 29th, 2009 at 12:47pm

Ok, so for the last many months I have been washing my hair with a shampoo bar (from mehendishop.com) and I usually do not have a problem using it, or rinsing it from my hair, but after washing my hair last night, I was looking in the mirror, towel drying my hair, and I noticed what looked like a TON of tiny dandruff flakes.  I scraped my scalp with my fingernail at the area of tiny white flecks and my fingernail was FILLED with white stuff .  I rubbed it between my fingers and it was very waxy feeling.  I can only imagine it was from my shampoo bar but I have never seen this before and I have been using the shampoo bar since March of this year (so about 5 months).  Has anyone experienced this before?  I am going to ACV rinse tonight and hope it goes away O.O

You must have been reading my mind(and looking in my mirror!)I have experienced the exact same thing.  I have a feeling it is either the shampoo bar and/or the cocnut oil that I use after I shampoo and condition.  I may go back to jojoba or camilia oil.  I'd be curious to hear your action and results.
I also acv rinse and it seems to get rid of the itchiness.

I don't use a shampoo bar, so I have no advice other than to try a clarifying shampoo and maybe have another alternate to use every once in a while.

Good luck!!

Yep, I would suggest weekly vinegar rinses if you're using a shampoo bar and see if that helps.

I'm convinced it was my shampoo bar!

Curlgirl, since that happened I haven't been rubbing the bar directly on my hair/scalp as I was before.  I am now trying to lather it in my hands and then rub that on my scalp.  I think using the bar directly on my scalp just made it build up too much I guess.  I am thinking about getting one of those soap bar lather thingies (it's like a mesh drawstring pouch that you put your soap in and it turns it into a loufa, sort of) I don't kow if it will tangle in the hair yet, but if I can remember to get one when I go grocery shopping I will try it out and post how it goes.  I am hoping it helps with the lathering, bc shampoo bars are notorious for not lathering well.  I also tried granulated sugar on my scalp after shampoo barring the last time I washed, it felt weird, but everything got rinsed out good!

Not sure if this is what you meant, but I would avoid rubbing the sponge thing on your hair.  I would think that would be too rough and cause tangling.  It should help you make a nice lather you can apply with your hands.

I think you are thinking of a sisal soap pouch.  Great for the body and exfoliating, but a definate no-no for the hair!

well the one I saw was literally a few layers of a flexible plastic netting sewn into a drawstring pouch.  Probably not ideal for running on my hair, but I am curious about it helping the lather more than actually putting in my hair, hehe.
