Itchy Scalp - Dandruff?...
Mar 2nd, 2009 at 8:28pm

Hi there everyone!  Hope you're all doing well Cheesy  For the last 3 weeks I've been using only giovanni tripple treat shampoo and conditioner with a ACV rinse and for the last week my head has been REALLY itchy...  I noticed last night while combing that for the first time in my life I have dandruff?  What is this?  Is this a good thing?  Like is my scalp adjusting and shedding and becoming healthy?  Or should I go back to using sulphates?  It's really not very comfortable Undecided

Cera, I'm sorry you're suffering!  I don't know what to say.  Of course you could try your other shampoo again and see if any thing changes.  I don't know anything about giovanni's products so I don't have advice there.

It could be an adjustment period, or maybe your scalp doesn't like giovanni products.  All natural products aren't always good for you-remember hemlock and arsenic are all natural, too!

Arsenic is BAD for you???!...   Grin  lol, j/k!  Yeah, I went all natural in every aspect about 2 years ago and have since settled somewhere in the middle.  I'm starting to wonder if my hair just really LIKES sulphates and that they won't do more harm than good:)  However, I'll give this another few weeks before going back just in case this is just a cleaning period for my scalp:)  Thanks for your empathy:)

As are poison ivy, poisonous mushrooms, marijuana and heroin. Natural does not equate to better! Many natural products are not refined or tested in any way and end up being extremely harsh.

The scalp doesn't start suddenly itching, shedding and developing dandruff when it's healthy. It sounds like yours is being seriously dried out or may be having an allergic reaction to the new products. I would stop using them immediately. There are many other sulfate-free products out there, if that's what you prefer.

I recommemd that you let your scalp rest for a while only washing with water. I would suggest that you get rid of your new products (or sell them). In winter itīs so important to moisturize the scalp. I recommend sleeping with coco nut oil to get red of the flakiness.Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions and concern!  I switched out my shampoo, and did the ACV rinse afterwards.  I'm already feeling better.  Must have been the combination of tea tree, peppermint, and eucalyptus oils being too harsh for my skin...(maybe) Roll Eyes  I'll also start oiling my scalp during my deep conditioning treatments...didnt do that before for fear of having to over wash to remove the oils.  But it's worth a shot!

OH!  One more thing that I did that I forgot to mention - just incase there's someone else having this issue and is reading this for a solution!  After washing a couple days ago I put about 1 1/2 Tbl pure aloe vera gel (the stuff you have to keep refrigerated) on my scalp and just left it.  It was cooling and soothing and wonderful.  I highly recomend it for itchy skin anywhere...and it really worked on my scalp!

Natural ways to cure dandruff

Dandruff can be easily cured by adopting some natural remedies. Explore your kitchen and you will find many solutions to cure dandruff right there. Following are some simple remedies to get rid of dandruff naturally.

Soak a spoon of fenugreek seeds in water overnight and then grind it into a fine paste in the morning. Apply it all over the scalp and rinse it off after half an hour

Add a teaspoon of lime juice into the mug full of water and rinse you hair with this solution immediately after washing your hair

Boil beetroot in water and apply the solution to the scalp with a cotton ball every night before going to bed

Massage your hair gently with curd and rinse after half an hour

Apply a mix of lime juice and amla juice to the scalp. Keep it overnight and wash next day

Rinse your hair with one part Cider vinegar diluted with three parts of water

Massage your scalp gently with warm coconut oil twice a week

Apply Aloe Vera gel all over the scalp for half an hour before taking a bath

Massage the scalp with olive oil and keep it overnight

Mix a tablespoon of limejuice and crushed garlic. Apply it all over the scalp and rinse after 10-15 minutes

Soak a few neem leaves in hot water, filter, cool and rinse your hair with this water

Apply onion juice all over the scalp and wash it off after half an hour with shampoo

Other than these remedies, ingredients such as honey, brandy, rosemary leaves, henna, carrots, salt, tea leaves and egg white are also found beneficial to cure dandruff.
