Rosemary & Lavendar...myth?
Feb 25th, 2009 at 10:43pm

I've read that mixing a 1/5 solution of Rosemary and Lavendar Essential oils into a carrier oil and then rubbing it on your scalp helps your hair grow faster, stronger etc.  Is this really true?  Is there any science behind it?  I mean observing certain other culters (...pondering leia's beautiful beautiful hair... Wink that claim to use these oils, I find that most of them DO tend to have long, very healthy hair.  Any correlation?

Rosemary is supposed to stimulate the hair folicles.  It is also known to darken gray hair (and because of that feature, light haired blondes tend to avoid its direct use).

Lavender oil is believed to help prevent hair loss and promote the growth of new hair.

Oh, honey. Your hair's growth rate is determined by genetics and nothing else. Nothing is going to magically defy what nature gave you and instantly provide you with long, glorious locks. There is no magic bullet. Sorry.

There are things that you can do to maximize the health of your hair which will give it the strength it needs to grow longer. Things like proper nutrition, quality products and gentle treatment. None of these things will augment the growing process, however. That is strictly a matter of time.
