I'm a feminist--who knew?!
Jan 23rd, 2009 at 1:14pm

Just for kicks and giggles, I took this quiz:
http://www.gotoquiz.com/are_you_a_feminist

Your Result: You are a full blooded feminist
You believe in women's rights all the way and continue to be unhappy with the way things are right now and wish for more change.  You are willing to take part in marches, boycotts and meetings that involve the amelioration of women's issues.  You realize that society views feminists negatively but still are proud to call yourself one. You are appalled to see women who don't have a clue that "gender" is simply a term which the definition is 100% man made. If you feel a comment is sexist or makes you uncomfortable you speak up on it!  You are always aiming to help others become aware of how much further women need to go and how society restricts them and predetermines their roles. You hate that feminists are so divided in themselves and believe that only if they are unified can they make a difference. We need more of you!  There is a strong feminist inside you! Let it out!

It was a silly, leading quiz, but still a fun way to pass a few bored minutes.  I prefer to think of myself as a humanist rather than a feminist. Wink

I perhaps naively assume that most modern women will get a feminist result.  I am also not surprised that I didn't.  I'm not going to go into depth about what I really think because I can't take multiple choice tests seriously (never could in high school either and therefor always scored very low on them) because there aren't ever any choices that I can whole heartedly agree with or that would accurately reflect, how my life experiences have affected me and led me to adopt certain opinions and in many cases I accept that something is true and right for me but not for everyone else.  So I took it light heartedly and toyed a bit with the answers I chose.

"You're not really sure what a feminist is by definition but do not want to have any part of it.  You think a feminist is a man-hating lesbian who never has a date on Saturday night.  If guys want you to play dumb and agree with everything they say, you'll do it even though that's not really you.  You don't realize that identifying with you're sexuality gives you a stronger understanding of yourself and an awareness of the confining and asphyxiating society around you that limits you because you are a woman.  Why should women always be more passive, less aggressive, less talkative and less opinionated than men?  And why, when these women go against these "gender roles" that society places for them, are they criticized?  You fear being criticized but by feeding into the roles made by society you are only belittling yourself".

The result shows a strong pro-feminism bias.  I don't recognize myself in much of the above and I certainly don't fear holding unpopular opinions, voicing them.  I am not surprised by their ignorant assumptions of women who don't fit their feminist ideals.

This one is slightly less leading, if anyone's interested.

And, of course...
You Are 98% Feminist

...

You are a total feminist. This doesn't mean you're a man hater (in fact, you may be a man).
You just think that men and women should be treated equally. It's a simple idea but somehow complicated for the world to put into action.

Are You a Feminist?

You Are 76% Feminist
...

You are certainly a feminist - whether you know it or not.
You believe in gender equality, at least most of the time. You also believe there are a few exceptions.

Sounds like me Tongue

Although, I really didn't like question 3.

Men and women should be held to the same sexual standards. If men can sleep around without judgment, women should be able to as well.

I think it should've read more like, "if women can be chaste or monogamous without judgement, then men should be able to as well."  Or perhaps I'm just a prude. Roll Eyes
