BeeHive!?
Dec 18th, 2008 at 11:03pm

OK!  So I have X-Box Live, (online X-Box 360 account)  and recently they added this new thing that lets you create an avatar of yourself!  One of the hairstyles I found was SO CUTE!  And I thought it would be awesome to try to pull it off for the holidays!  Here is a picture from the front, although it doesn't show how giant the back is.

...

So it LOOKS like a beehive hairdo only it's at the back of the head instead of all on top/front.  If you saw the back of the avatar's head, the way the model looks is a sort of french twist at the bottom with this giant poof on top, and then the fringe in the front.  Anyway I just thought it was awesome and I have never tried to make my hair poofy.

Has anyone ever attempted the infamous Beehive?

Old school Beehive: http://haireality.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/beehive2.jpg

Modern Beehive (pretty): http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff90/usarmedforces/Beehive.jpg

I bet it would be easier if I cheated and put something in my hair to make the poof, bc I am not about to tease, or "rat" my hair http://video.about.com/womenshair/Classic-Beehive-Hairdo.htm.

Any ideas on what the heck I could put under my hair to make it round and giant and then sort of layer/wrap my hair around?

LOL Wouldn't it be fun and silly to use a lightweight plastic bowl?  No one would know O_O  That might be uncomfortable though.  Hmm, I need ideas!  I wonder if I could do a sock bun, only GIANT.  But no sock is that big......maybe a small sweater, LOL.

OH!  I have some fake hair for use as extensions (or costuming) that isn't attached to anyhting, but I wonder if I could ball that up and pin it under my real hair to get volume instead of teasing!?  oh that might work!!  Shocked

Here's another awesome giant beehive:

Oh this one is PERFECT!  Messy and sexy and large but not rediculous!  Man that would be KICK BUTT!

Yes but I don't remember the details.  It didn't turn out well.  Today I'd roll it up on the biggest rollers I could find, then I'd brush it out and tease it to death and then go from there.  Since none of this is good for my hair, I wouldn't actually try the style today.  If I could find or make a rat large enough, that may make things easier and I could forego the rolls and teasing.

I was thinking about this while trying to fall asleep last night and I think I have a plan.

I think I am going to try to make a "hair ball" maybe take some cotton batting and roll it into a ball and then cover it with wig hair that is close to my color, then pin that to my head and work my real hair around it!

I am going to try it and if it works I will take pics and post a how-to!

I am going to try to do this product, and tease FREE!

I know of people who have used nylon stockings, filled with hair, polyester, whatever, as hair rats.  Use a stocking that is close to your own hair color or dye it to match.

That's BRILLIANT!  And also ten thousand times easier than what I was going to attempt.  I will definitely try it with a stocking, thanks!

In high school I was in a play that was set in the 1960's and the director did my hair in a beehive.  Aqua Net hairspray was the key, and lots of time.  There's even a picture of me in the yearbook, mid-hive.

I got some really nice rats from http://www.patrick-cameron.com/accessories.html. ; I have 2 of them and use them pretty often, especially for fantasy and vintage hairstyles.  I highly recommend them!

Good luck!  Please post a pic of the finished product!

oooh thanks!  i will check that out!  For some reason I am really against hair spray.  i have never used it or even bought it ever in my entire life!  I guess I just think it's really bad for my hair.  i NEVER put product in it, so I am going to *try* to do a beehive product-free.  I will definitely take pics!  I will also check out those rats, thanks!

I think there are tutorials on youtube for making your own rats.  You can sometimes buy stuff to fill with in hobby shops or if you're patient, collect your own hair from your brushes, etc.

I once collected hair from my brushes to try and make the biggest hairball for the Ginus book of world records LOL!  I gave up after a couple months because it was kind of weird and gross to have a softball sized hairball.

I saw on youtube this hairstylist made his own rats by just using wig pony tails (loose wig hair, which I happen to already have) and ratting it up a little and putting it into a clear hairnet.  So I am going to get a clear hairnet today and make one so i can try the beehive!  Or a variation of it anyway.
