a bit of a problem
Nov 4th, 2008 at 8:38pm

So I just thought of this because of the recently posted "barrettes issue"  in Just Kiddin'. I started a new post because I didnt want to attack that one.

I'm in dance class 2 days a week and we always have to keep our hair up in a neat bun. Bobby pins are not allowed to be worn because they fall out of peoples hair and then other people step on them and hurt their feet (I know, a bit strict isnt it?). So since not all of my hair can  fit up in a bun (but its almost there!!) I usually have to use 2 or 3 metal barettes. I just heard that these are damaging to the hair. So if im not allowed to use bobby pins, and i dont really like to use hairspray each time i go, what should i do? Just keep using the clips? Thanks!

What about using aloe gel for hold, instead of the hairspray?  That seems to work for my hair.

I go to a ballet class where hair is required in a bun, but my studio is not strict about how it stays there, as long as it is in a bun and won't fall.  I usually use little claw clips, and clip the outer coil to my head.  I can do it with an elastic and a few pins, but it's not as secure.

Does your studio allow headbands?  Most do (both of mine do) and they are an effective and damage free way to keep hair off your face.  I'm talking about the fairly wide cloth ones-- they're secure, pretty and keep all those little bits away from your face.  Not the most glamorous solution, but effective.  They can also double as scrunchies if you're in a hurry.  Wink

I have a hairspray suggestion.  Jason has a finishing spray that his really good. It has Alor and Bergamont and holds the hair quite nicely Smiley  Also try to find No slip Grip hair clips by Goody. ...

thanks for the suggestions!

Callisto: yeah, they do allow headbands. Thats a good idea. I think I might try that. Smiley

I'll see if i can find those other products you suggested. And about the aloe gel, do I just use just random aloe gel or is there a special kind that you use for your hair? I've never used it on hair before. We do have aloe gel, but i normally use it on dry skin.
Thank you!

Any aloe vera gel will work as long as it does not have alcohol in it.  I use Fruit of the Earth brand - it is just the gel with no significant additives or coloring.  This gel is also great on skin!
