Foam rollers

Are they bad for your hair if only used occasionally?  How often is too often?  Is it really bad for your hair to sleep on them?

Foam rollers are definately better for your hair than plastic hard ones with the tiny teeth!!  You can also sleep more comfortably with foam rollers.  You might also want to consider sock rolling.  BB has some info. posted here about how to do it.

I recently purchased CurlFormers, which leave a great curl w/no damage. There should be a thread on this somewhere if you are interested.

I have a couple of sets of foam rollers.  One type has a wire inside that you twist the ends together after rolling the hair.  The other type has a plastic frame that snaps shut over the rolled hair.  I've only slept in the first type and it was comfy and gave me crazy curls.

Hehehe... my hair's almost that curly, but not quite.  And it's a lot longer.

I think they're gorgeous.  I'd like any kind of curl "the grass is always greener on the other side"...Do you set on damp or dry hair?  Do you need to use a styling product like foam, gel, setting lotion?  Setting lotion is difficult to find here and I never figured out how you're supposed to apply it.

LOL!  Thanks!  It was an experiment...I was a vintage witch for work and Halloween eve.

I do use gel and I rolled my hair when damp and slept overnight in the rollers.  My hair is a lot longer now, I should try it again and see how it would turn out.

Thanks Sakina.

A 1930s-40s vintage enthusiast with similar thickness, length and cut in hair as mine says she sets rollers on dry hair with undeluted setting lotion, blasts the hair with heat so it's a bit warm while setting, lets set for 8 hrs. or sleeps on them, blasts with more heat, sprays curl encouraging spray on after taking rollers out, sometimes brushes for a more glamorous vintage correct look, and always sprays the curls to make them last longer.  This is the only way she can make curls lasts all day.

I empatise with what she says but I have different hair priorities than her so I'll forego the heat and keep the styling product use to a minimum of 1-2 products.  I've always hated hairdryers.  I finally got a hairdryer last year but I use it for all sorts of other stuff than drying hair.

My attempt to photograph my hair rolled up, unrolled and brushed didn't turn out well but here goes:

Another day, a different setting pattern:

Unbrushed Embarrassed :

For the first style I'd rolled everything straight off and back from my face in the same direction.

Well, I've had my fun.  It's not something I want to do too often.  I believe nature gives us the hair that suits us best.

Wow!  You totally have the retro look!  Personally, I like the first set best.  Victory rolls would look awesome on you.  Where do you get your retro clothes?
Have you tried pin curls?
