Growing out Curls again.. Need different products!

Hey!

I am curious what any of you curly or thick haired ladies think of these products? They all sound good in their own ways, though with Carol's Daughter I've seen alot of negative reviews, and no bad ones for any of the others... I am a white guy, with very curly hair that is able to be just conditioned in the winter (though I still havent figured out my summer hair routine. I actually cut it off a couple weeks ago in a bit of a stressy fit cos i was so frustrated and wated it to look perfect, but all the trial and error was getting too much to handle for me! Of course G.I. Jane helped me make my decision.. haha)
Anyway, let me know. I don't know if it is for African hair or if I could get their less hydrating products and still be passable. Desperate as I am growing my hair back out!!! Thanks so much. Here are 4 different sites, and I am feeling the Beauty4ashes one the most, but I'd love some input or advice.

I've not seen the Carol's Daughters products before. I looked at several of their hair products and they sound wonderful. I don't see any reason why anyone with dry hair wouldn't benefit from them.

TheB4a products don't list their ingredients, but they state they DON'T include a lot of the nastier stuff. This line is pricey due to its natural and no preservatives claims.

There are other product lines out there specifically for curly hair - I'll let our curly hair experts chime in on their recommendations.

A good hair care routine should be started immediately to prevent damage to the ends of your currently "short" hair, as these ends can become the ends of your "long" hair.

After reading some David Wolfe, I feel MSM is a great thing. And the good thing is all the ingredients are listed too! I just don't know how this would go with my curls... (Can you tell I want a very natural product that can also deliver? Any one out there find something like this??)

Sakina introduced me to a line known as DevaCurl, and I love it! It has really revived my curls and made the hydration level for my hair better than ever!

Hey, Yaku! I do use Devacurl products. I've ordered some of the Carol's Daughter products. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for posting the links, it was interesting to check out.

You can get a nice travel kit from Devacurl w/no poo, one condition, angell, moisture lock. I think there's 5 things in the kit, maybe just 4!

Trial and error, me bucko, everyone's hair likes what it likes. I'm just happy that l&lx3 likes Devacurl, cause I do, too.

I looked into mixed chicks before, I think they had some -cones in there and my hair does not like -cones. Do you know if your hair likes cones or not?

^They make the best face wash ever made that I've used for 4 years, Black Velvet. And now they make a shampoo so I am kind of desperately wanting to try them out first! Is there a general rule that you ladies and men would advise for how long one should give a product to start "working"? Two weeks trial period?
Thanks for the advice!!! I am unsure whether my hair likes cones or not. At the moment I use Burt's Bee's Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo every few days and their Raspberry Moisture conditioner more often than that. Since my hair is short, I'm just using these basics, but I want to build a strong foundation (well... ends.) like bikerbraid suggested. As you mentioned also, when my hair was long I was using DevaCurl's LoPoo as a shampoo every couple days, and the OneCondition as a leave-in every other day, while condition between. It worked nice but it just didn't do the trick for me. And I am a fan of products that are as natural and organic (and cruelty free) as possible, and this line seems to have alot of ingredients that were a little too harsh to be comfortable on my hair. (Not able to pinpoint it) I regret that I cut my hair, but oh well!

By the way, loving the curly hair journals! I'll have to find some time to read more of them, as maybe that will help me.
I'm unsure how different men's and women's hair biology really is. But I'm sure it can't be so different that it requires completely different products. (i.e. The Mixed Chicks "mens line") So really I'm just more torn than anything when really I just want flawless hair like you all have in your photos!

I have certainly learned alot! My mom never knew how to care for my curly hair when I was younger, so when I got older niether did I. None of the salons around here could tell me anything about my curly hair either, so I am glad I found this place, and such wonderful people to tell me what I can try to make my hair healthy!

Oh mixed chicks wrote me back with the ingredients! That's great customer service there for you, but alot of these ingredients are a huge no no for me. Seriously how many parabens do you need?! Dyes and fragrance and alcohol, oh my!

So officially starting to grow my hair out again in a couple weeks. Getting it chopped off (it's only 2-3 inches right now.. how much more can I chop off?? haha) then and hopefully I find a hair care line that makes it easy to care for my hair. I had so much buildup with Deva Curl. And it sems like no one in Minneapolis knows how to handle real curly hair. My stylist did things right:
1) cut my hair when it was dry
2) used the one conditioner as a leave in

but she did some things iffy too.
1) let me sit under one of those salon bulb chairs where your head is under that mushroom bulb to dry. My hair got so crispy after that with the conditioner drying in the heat!!
2) saying oil doesnt do anything for my hair besides make it harder to take care of and create buildup.

I want to understand ACV rinses more, but it is the most confusion subject in the world to me. I don't want ot do it wrong, and I hear so many things from people. and it seems like one of those things I would have to see done instead of having it typed to me. sigh

Any advice oh oracles of hair!?

I should probably start a hair journal. haha

Congrats on deciding to grow your curls out (again!)!

I still use Deva Curl, and do acv rinse every time I shampoo (which is twice a week). I keep a 44oz plastic cup in the shower and put about 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in it and then at least 1 cup of water, sometimes more. After shampooing and rinsing out the shampoo, I pour the acv rinse over my head and then leave it in for a minute and rinse that out. Then I condition.

I've tried Carol's Daughter, and the smell of it gives me a headache. Also, it makes my hair feel super coated. It might work for you if you're super curly, but I'm more wavy and need something less heavy.

I've been reading about Mop Top products, I plan on trying them after I go through my DevaCurl.
