Gentle way of dying hair red?
May 22nd, 2008 at 5:08pm

As you can tell from my avvy and profile, I have dyed dark red (almost reddish-brown) hair.  I love it, but as I'm trying to grow my hair much longer, I was wondering if there was a gentler way to dye my hair red?  I've heard about using beetroots, but I'm not really sure about how that works.  If anyone has any recipies they could share, I'd much appreciate it.  My natural hair colour is brown.

Maybe auburn with henna?  I don't have any experience w/henna myself but I do know you can get it in different colors.

Thanks, Sakina! I've been thinking about henna, and I think I know somewhere that might sell it in town.  I'm going in tomorrow, so I'll have a look.

I've used henna, but not beetroots. Here you can see how my grays show up red in my dark brown hair with henna:

Before (grays and natural dark brown hair):

And after pure henna (grays show up red, but my dark brown is just slightly red):

Henna is PERMANENT. If you want something less permanent, hibiscus rinses do the trick for me:

After hibiscus rinse:

Tea rinses wash right out after the next shampoo.
