I know there are lots of NASCAR fans in the United States and some in other countries but it seems like not many people on internet forums and message boards are into NASCAR or car racing in general Roll Eyes

But, I thought I would take a chance and see if there might be a few here or not?

Here is my story of how I became a NASCAR fanatic:

One Sunday in Feburary of 2001 I was channel surfing and stopped at a NASCAR race which had something like 10 laps left in the race.  So I watched it and I actually thought it was pretty neat.
At that time the only drivers I really knew waere Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
After the race it was revealed that Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s father Dale, Sr. was killed in the race Cry
That next Monday that became big news since he was the current most popular driver at that time.  One girl who worked by my office was a fan of his so she was pretty sad.

So I decided I would watch more races which I did but I did not watch every race of the season (there are 32 races in a season).

But in 2002 I got into the sport big time.  I watched every race and even started getting into the Busch series which is kind of the college league of the sport even though some of the full blown pro drivers sometimes race in that series too.

By 2003 I got to know the drivers better and my wife even picked her favorites too even though she does not watch the races as religiously as I do.

And last season (2007) I watched a lot of the truck races which is pretty neat but not as exciting as the Sprint series (formerly known as Nextell Cup and Winston Cup Series).

The superbowl of NASCAR (The Daytona 500) is two weeks after the NFL superbowl so I am getting pretty excited about that and the 2008 season Smiley

My favorite of favorite drivers is Jeff Gordon and then I like Jimmie Johnson (who has won the championship for the past two seasons).  Other drivers I like are Kevin Harvick, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards and Michael Waltrip (even though he had a very crappy season last year).

My wife like Kenny Wallace the best.  She also likes Michael Waltrip, Denny Hamlin, Elliot Sadler, Martin Truex, Jr., and Carl Edwards.

Some people do not like it because it is pretty much like everything else these days, it is becoming nothing more about anything but money.  Whatever team has the most money is going to be more successful Roll Eyes  But, I don't care about that, I just care about the entertainment value of it (just like NFL football).

We use to watch NASCAR long ago, however we got board with it  Tongue  We are F1 fans.  My hubby comes from a racing family (Euro-Rally driving Renault)  Our fav drivers are Hamilton, Räikkönen, Fisichella, Button and my sweetie - Coulthard Roll Eyes  We also managed a motorcycle racing team a few years back.   Cars have nothing on motorcycles then it comes to the drivers nerves and strength.  I was once taken out on the back of a bike for a run on the race track.  I needed to see where my rider was making his errors on a turn.  Talk about change your shorts! Grin I gained a few more greys that day but I got to see just how it is on board.

I used to ride motorcycles and I was heavy into motorcross, supercross and BMX.  I wanted to get a 250 motocross bike but ended up buying a used Honda CR80.  I also owned a Honda XL185 but like a dummy I sold it to get an apartment Roll Eyes

I used to do all kinds of stunts on my BMX bicycles and I even got brave enough to jump cars.  But, I  would only  jump one car ramp to ramp and only crashed once but did not get hurt.

But, my BMX days are over and I can't afford a motorcycle right now and if I did I would have to get in better shape Roll Eyes
