Can somebody tell me
excactly
how to go about doing an olive oil treatment.
I mean, I need to know everthing from how much to use, to applying it, to rinsing and follow up care.
Thank you very much!!!

The amount of oil used is somewhat dependent on the length of your hair, the thickness of your hair, how pourous your hair is and how dry your hair is. You may need to experiment a bit to find the right amount for you. Check out the
hair Care Recipe Cookbook
for some ideas on types of oils that work and how to apply it. Basically you will just want to work the oil into the hair, using your hands to gently work the oil thru the hair. A comb can help with this as well.

Hey bvkerbear,
Olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is really heavy. I'd recommend it for overnight treatments only.
Whenever I know that I'll be washing all of my hair in the morning, I try to do a heavy EVOO treatment the night before. I first divide my hair in half and comb each side. Then I pour a little olive oil in the palm of my hand, rub my palms together and then slick them down the length of one side of my hair. I concentrate most of the oil on the ends. Then I do the same with the other side. When that's done, I'll usually pour a little more oil into my hand, rub my palms together and do my entire hair like that, bringing the 2 sections together for a "collective" oiling. If it's just for overnight, you can really load it on and not worry about being too greasy - you're supposed to be.
Anyway, then I twist my hair into a kind of loose bun and balance it on the back of my head while slipping on my sleep cap. You can find these at Wal*Mart for dirt cheap. Satin slumber caps, I think they're called. They're a little tricky to get used to at first, and I suppose you could also use a shower cap - I just could't sleep with all of that plastic crunching around my head. lol
So I leave it like that until the next morning when I pull off the sleep cap, carefully comb out my greasy locks and wash them as usual. There is no trace of olive oil left over after washing - just smooth hair.
Anyway, hope that answered your q's.

What is it with women and apologizing? I noticed this when I was in grad school. Men would say, "My opinion is..." and women would say, "I may be wrong but I think..." I made a real effort to stop that when I noticed myself doing it.
Anyway, you are not dumb, you don't sound dumb, and only dumb people pretend they know something or sit in ignorance because they are worried what others will think. So you are clearly not dumb because you don't do that.
So be loud, be proud, and speak up, sistah!
Oh, and welcome to Long Locks.

Thanks everyone! I tried the AVOO treatment last night. I only kept the oil on for 30 minutes, then shampooed and conditioned. I tried the vinegar rinse today. My hair is very soft and shiny, and my hairs not oily! I will certainly but this on my *Approved beauty treatments* list!
Thanks again everyone!
PS I forced my brother to do it too, and his hair is amazing now too. I know he must have liked it, but he wouldn't admit it.
