Cellophane

Cellophane is a "100% all natural" semi-permanent hair color that has no peroxide or ammonia.  But it contains dye I suppose.  Colors such as red ponceaux#4 and yellow#6 etc. are listed among the ingredients.

First of all, since colors are included, is it really natural?  And could this stuff be damaging to hair in any way?

The other ingredients are Dionized Water, Citric Acid, Salt, Sellosize, Metil and Benzoato Sodium, Quaternium 60 and Propy-tene glycol.

As I understand the process, Cellophane coats the hair with color but does not open the hair shaft as permanent hair coloring does.  This would be less damaging to the hair than products that contain peroxide or ammonia.  But the coating of the hair also can cause drying, since moisture can't get into the hair as easily.

Anybody have more information on this process??

Thanks Bikerbraid, I didn't think about that.
Do you think I'll experience drying with cassia?  It coats the hair too.

I've heard mixed reviews on cassia.  Yes, it coats the hair, but apparently it moisturizes the hair at the same time, so it traps the moisture in the hair as it coats it.  I have also heard some say, however, that it just dried out the hair.  So I don't know for sure how it will work for you.  My guess is, if your hair is in pretty good shape to begin with, the cassia would be good - it would moisturize and give the gloss.  (This is also assuming you use high quality cassia).

I'd love to try cassia on my hair some time - so if you give it a try - let me know how it goes for you.

I have tried cassia just within the past few weeks.  That's why when you mentioned that products that coat the hair could be bad, it made me especially worried.Undecided

So far I like the cassia, it made my hair look more conditioned and healtier looking.
I just really have to moisturize and on occasion apply hair serum to combat the stiffness (or "body", which ever you want to call it) caused by the coating.

I was considering doing henna or cellophane to get a richer brown.  Mainly just to try something new.  Based on your information about the cellophane coating the hair, I'm definitely going to go with the henna because I really can't take any more coats of anything on my hair.  It may look good, but the coating makes it too stiff.  I think that I have too much natural body to use products that coat the hair.

Here's a pic of my hair that I posted in my journal.  This is after the cassia and a trim.

It sounds like the cassia works for you!  Congrats.  Yes, with the coating comes body/stiffness.  They is considered good by some, bad by others.  My hair could use some body.   Smiley  Where did you get your cassia?

I purchased it online from a company named Henn Sooq, their online address is hennasooq.com.  They're based out of Quebec.  If you do try cassia, I'd like to know how it turns out.  I'm curious as to what the results would be on your hair type compared to mine.

I'm going to put henna on my hair next month.  I'm going to buy it from Morroco Method because apparently their colors are pre mixed and that should make it easier for me.
