oil treatment
Jan 23rd, 2007 at 2:36pm

I am planning to wash my hair in the morning and I am thinking of applying olive oil tonite and sleeping in it.  How much do I apply, and where?  My hair is to my thighs and thick.  The ends seem to have some dryness (static),  will doing this help?  If I do this, do I warm the oil first? I have been doing S&D frequently so to my knowledge there isn't much damage.  Unless I don't know what I am looking at.

Thank you
Debr

The amount of oil is hard to say.  With hair as long and thick as yours, you would need more than I (with the same length).  I'd start with a few drops of oil rubbed between the palms of your hands, then run your hands down your hair.  I usually start about 6 inches from the ends, then my next "swipe" I'll start another 6 inches higher.  I add oil to my hands as they lose the oil to the hair.  I stop when I get to my jaw.  If you have a good boar bristle brush, this would be a good time to use it to help distribute the oil evenly.  The oil will help with the static.  I apply a bit of jojoba oil to my hair anytime it seems to have static.

If you plan to wash your hair the next morning, you can be quite liberal with the oil and don't be afraid of over-oiling.  It will wash out.  You might want to braid your hair and slip the braid into a clean sock or one of Curlgirl64's Hair Sox.  This will keep the oil off the bed linens.

Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.
