I chopped it off! Before and After shots
Jun 1st, 2006 at 4:26am

Well, I finally did it- I donated my hair to charity... In the excitement I forgot to ask exactly how much was cut off (which drives me crazy), but you can estimate from the photos.  Surprisingly, I wasn't affected emotionally much at all... but then again, I just graduated from high school, and I'll be separated by a couple hundred miles from my boyfriend of three years and best friend of five years when I go to college in two months, and that hasn't seemed to affect me yet either.  Go figure!  Tongue

Wow, that's quite a change, but you look cute with that length! Since you're going to be really busy with college, the shorter cut should be easier to care for. It's a bit early, but good luck with college, and congratulations on graduating from high school!

Your new cut looks darling, and it will be easier to care for in college.  I have known a number of young people who cut their hair to shoulder length to go away to college, then never cut it again.  (Too "complicated" to get hair cuts in college!)

Good luck with school and all the new and wonderful things that you will discover.

Jadewolf,

What an amazing haircut!  Your hair was so long...how did you ever get the courage to cut it all off?
I am not sure I could cut mine off.  You look cute with short hair though.  Did a hair stylist do the chop for you?  I'll bet that person was nervous cutting all you long hair off.  Hope you do well in school.

Oh both hair lengths look great! I always admire people that donate their hair. I have a friend here that does it every 7 years or so. She has long, thick red hair that grows amazingly fast.
Good luck in college and congrats on your graduation.

Very nice. You look cute with your new cut.
I agree. While at college, it can be difficult to have long hair and live in the dorms. Good luck with school and adjusting to change.

Thank you all for your support!  Yes, I can see me just never getting around  Wink to cutting it again during college; I can't wait to see how it grows out now that I know how to take better care of it and now that it's all one length (I had layers way back when).  Also, in response to Jim's question, the stylist did seem pretty excited (she really made sure I  was ready before she made the big cut  Tongue), but she's had some experience with it- she cut my best friend's waist-length hair to about jaw length!  It was pretty dramatic- she was donating it to charity too.

Wow. Your hair looked great before AND after!

Congrats on your graduation. Now you have a sassy new style to take on college with. And don't worry, if you miss the length, you can always grow it back.  Smiley

Best of luck in school. Remember, if you don't have fun along the way, it's not worth it!

I'm a little late but - your new 'do looks great!  It also looks like an easy length to grow out, if you decide to go long again.

In your other thread, you mentioned you thought about bangs.  I think bangs are cute, but if you want to keep your hair from distracting you at work, it might not be the route to go.  When I was little I had bangs, grew them out, and got them cut again in high school.  While they never bothered me as a kid, they were a big nuisance when I got older.  They always tickled my forehead and require constant maintenance.  Maintenance in the way of trimming - a couple centimeters growth can really seem like a lot when it's in front of your face.  I had to trim once a month.

Anyhoo, enjoy your haircut!  Cheesy

Wow you were very brave to go for the chop right from down there, to up there!
Tell me, did your head feel really light afterward??! I had long hair to my waist when I was 9, and had it cut in a bob, and my head just felt so light without the long, thick locks hanging over my shoulders! Since then, I've grown my hair back, and it now hangs past my waist again, but not as long as yours was. I'd be interested to know if you felt the same sensation!! Wink
