NancyN28'2 Hair Journal
May 11th, 2006 at 12:06am

Okay, this is day two of my hair growing self.  Goodness, I've got a lot going on.....dieting, trying to become more domestic (I'm a terrible housekeeper so I'm a flybaby too)....

Yesterday morning I did a diluted shampoo on scalp only and then did a semi-diluted conditioner.  After that I did a John Freida hair glossing, trying to cover my grey somehow mixed with more conditioner.  I braid my hair for bed and today I did a dutch braid on the top part of my head.  It's kinda heavy though.   I think my hair is 23 inches or so.

Congrats on starting your own journal.  Keeping track of how you care for your hair can help you see what works and what doesn't.  Good luck!

Yep, I've already started a journal.  Thank You Bikerbraid and Trisha for stopping by. Smiley   How cool!

Hair---just comed and brushed today.  Did use some VO5 leave in as I had quite a bit of static today.  The braid left no curl so I went to work with my hair down but ended up putting the front part up in a clip.  Took it down on the way home--I put my hair up in a headband bun when I drive so it doesn't get stuck in my seatbelt.  I'm feeling the need for a wash tomorrow morning.  I still use the hair dryer a little, just so it's not soaking wet all day.  I know, I know....it's bad.   Maybe I'll learn not to rely on it so much.

So, tonight I'll probably braid it again for sleeping.....does anyone have any other ideas?

Life--First day back at work after vacation.  No a lot going on there.  Did well diet wise, so far......DH and DD are having pizza for dinner, not sure what I'll be having.  I did not workout.....LAZY!

I'll check in later.

Hey, Nancy...

Congrats on starting your journal. Look forward to more entries.  Smiley

BB is right - these things are good references and good ways to teach yourself. Some entries will have you screaming, "WTF was I thinking?!" but that's the point, I guess.  Wink

Ciao!

Ok, this is my second time attempting to post, my first one was lost somewhere.

I just want to thank all you visitors to my journal.  So cool and friendly!

I washed this morning.  Probably more than I should have, however, prior to washing I rubbed in quite a bit of V05.  I used suave humecant shampoo and conditioner (rather diluted) followed with the John Freida Color Glaze and more conditioner.  I'm so proud as I did not use my hair dryer today.

I discovered that because of these new stupid layers in the bang area (I have no bangs) that I cannot leave my hair down at all while at work.  My hair just gets in my way, my mouth, eyes....so I'm wearing it back in a clip most of the time (boring).

I've been putting my hair up when driving with a stretchy hair band.  I holds more than a scrunchie, same principal.  I'm sure it's not too attractive but nobody sees me as I remove it once I get to my destination.

I was unsuccessful in sleeping with a braid last night.  It just kept falling out (unusual) so I tried sleeping with a headband bun thing but it was too heavy and gave me a headache.

I did well with my diet, took my vitamins, and drank tons of water.

Ok.....bye!

Looked at my hair this morning as I was combing and I see that my blond streaks are not so blond.  The John Freida is working.  Now if it will only work on the grey?  Don't get me wrong, I LOVED my blond streaks, even considered doing my whole head that colore, but I just cannot afford to have my hair profesionally colored anymore.  And the reason I'm using the color glaze instead of regular hair color is that I'm terrible at coloring my own hair.  The color glaze is pretty easy, just like conditioner.  I hope to at least make the grey not quite so noticable.

I only slept with a low pony last night.  I did french braid it but I ruined it.  I was trying the sock trick, thinking that I would be more protective and perhaps I'd get some curl, but it was too heavy and pulled.

Maybe I'm trying too hard to be nice to my hair?  When I grew it before I was only 19, and I was working all the time and simply had no time for tims.  I didn't do anything special except only washing my scalp and conditioning the length (my then boyfriend's sister was a hair dresser and she taught me that)....I don't know.

I wonder, why at the age of 33, do I have so much grey?  People say they don't notice but they must be blind!  It is way noticable.  My mom was salt and pepper the whole time I remember her.  She always wished she'd just go silver and never did.  I think that now, in heaven, she must have the perfect hair for her, right?
I miss my mommy terribly this day before mother's day....she's been gone for  5 years now...oh well, no time for a pitty party.

My daughter has decided she would like to grow her hair also.  She has a shoulder length bob now (ALL HER IDEA).  But her hair is so easily knotable.   And I'm constantly having to remind her father not to brush wet hair!  Life is a learning experience for all of us I guess.

I have a question for anyone who might be checking in (I don't know where to ask), how important is brushing?  I got a boar bristle brush at Sally's (good price) and I was sure it was going to be stiff enough to get through my hair but it's so not.  I feel like I'm just rubbing the top and underside of my hair and the middle gets left out.

Ok, enough rambling for now.

Heya, Nancy  Smiley

Boar bristle brushes (BBB's) aren't meant to penetrate the hair - just smooth over the surface. They're designed only for surface smoothing & distributing oils. The goal is to try & find the softest one available for this reason.  Wink

Personally, I don't use BBB's...er, well, I have one, but don't use it all that often. I like the kind of bristles that penetrate the hair (it sounds like you do, too) and are meant for detangling. I use a Conair Velvet Touch oval cushion brush - it's the gentlest one I've found so far.

Brushing is pretty subjective. It's more important to some than others. Some people here only use combs. Most of us have a collection of different combs & brushes, each for a different purpose. Some days, I myself just use a wide tooth seamless comb. So the brushing thing - what type & how often is up to you. I think the real idea is to just treat your hair gently.  Smiley

Today is mother's day.  DD made me a butterfly magnet at school.  That was my mother's day gift.

HAIR
This morning I braided the top/front part of my hair and used the bun maker.  I was enjoying it.  Took it down about 2 o'clock.  My hair feels kinda gross in the root area today.  I'm going to have to check and see if we have any vinegar for I can use it when I shampoo tomorrow.  I don't yet have a clarifying shampoo and it will have to wait until the fundage presents itself.   I'm going to have to do the same with dd.

Well, this morning I discovered that the John Freida Color Glaze is probably not good for my hair.  It felt sooooooo gross this morning, and I just shampooed on Friday! Embarrassed  So, nontheless, I was forced to wash my hair this morning. Cry Cry   I think I need to clarify because I still kinda gross but I have neither clarifying shampoo or vinegar.  It will have to wait until payday on Friday, I hope the money will be there anyway.....

Also....I did not blow dry my hair!!!!!!!!!

Husband is ill, he has strept throat.  Great.  I've never had sprept throat in my life so I'm not worried about me, but I am concerned about my daughter...

,Ok--I've come to the realization that all of you wonderful hairgrowing people know very little about me other than that I'm obsessed with my hair and my weight so here goes.....

I grew up in Iowa and moved to Albuquerque when I was 14....I am the youngest of three children; actually, I was the afterthought as my brother is 16 years older than I and my sister is 12  years older.

I have been married for 7 years.  I have a 6 year old  daughter.  I have three dogs (very fat black lab named Peanut---I know, why peanut...., a hyper and ultra-sweet Austraillian Cattle Dog named Jo Jo, and very old and sweet Cocker Spaniel named Rusty) and one cat (very vocal male named Tigger).

I've been working for an excellent neurologist for the last 13 years.  First I was his terrible transcriptionist, then a receptionist, and now I do medical billing.  I hope my job doesn't go anywhere any time soon....13 years.... Shocked

I absolutely LOVE music.  Almost any kind of music, (alternative, classical, celtic is an especially fav, country, classic rock, old time new wave...)  however, it must be music and not NOISE!

( I had planned on going to music school for a while--or nursing school-- but my dad was ill and died shortly after I finished high school and as a result I went to business school...Lost my mom 5 years ago....terrible experience, I don't recommend being orphaned, it's hard to learn to be a mommy without your mommy..... Cry Cry

Ok, that's pretty much all about me.  Anything else?  Let's see.....I'm trying to learn to become obsessed with exercise instead of sitting on my butt Embarrassed, I'm trying to figure out how to get out of debt....oh yeah....and I'm trying to learn to do cool stuff with my hair.   Ok, that's it.

Bye! Embarrassed
