There is a young teenager at my church that has corkscrew curly hair that is almost to his shoulders.  Unfortunately, he is obviously brushing his hair after it dries, making it a huge frizz ball.  I keep trying to think of a way to approach him regarding his hair care.  I'd love to suggest he only finger comb his hair and use some oil on it to help define the curls.

His mother has similar hair, but she does not look as "out of control" as her son. 

I've thought about approaching his mother to see if he might be open to a suggestion from me, or that she could pass along a suggestion or two.  I don't know this family real well, but I have participated in some group events with them and we have had some conversations.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I definitely second what CurlGirl says, starting with a compliment is always the way to go in a situation like that.  I'm guessing he's probably never even heard of jojoba oil, though, so maybe you can offer to share a bit with him and tell him that it'll really bring his natural shine out on those curls and define them more.  He'll be more likely to go out on his own (or ask his mom to do it ) and get his own oil if he has a little to try first.

Who knows...you just may change his hair for the rest of his life, he'll thank you for it!! 

I've not had a chance to talk with him.... he's not been in church when I've been there.  I'm still hoping to talk with him.
