Hi All,

My neice's 2nd birthday just passed and I got her a Hello Kitty DVD.  Her mother will not let her watch it as she deemed it too violent.  I'am like WTH? Sorry, but it was made for 2 year olds and even says it on the box. My niece watchs baby Einstein all the time.  Sometimes she watches Dora or Bear in the blue house.  But i'm flabbergasted!  Hello Kitty violent??  She did see the DVD ( her father played it when her Mum was not home)  and loved it, what can I do...?  

Has she even seen it?  Maybe she's under the impression that all "anime" is violent    and has dismissed it out of hand.  I'd actually prefer my nephew watch Hello Kitty rather than Barney, but that's more of a taste issue.   8)

Yea I would rather have my child watch "Hello Kitty" than Barney (I think teh accessories are cute too). Barney is too...silly and fake in a way. Now I love childrens stories and fairy tales, but Barney seems to be just plain old unbelievable. No one loves everybody that much on Earth -_-. I can understand what you mean by "taste." I've also noticed that children raise don Barney seem to grow upthe same as any child...so Barney didn't teach much. Why not Winne tthe Pooh? At leats that has an actual story polt in every episode and its just so more artistic and charming. I think that if you can;t listen to the stories or wtach teh shows your kids do...then the shows are too cheesy. Think about it...grow-up can listen to fairy tales and alot of them don't get bored. They like it. So how come we watch Barney and we want to throw up from all the corn? We need to change childrens programming a bit. Like maybe make more shows like Winnie the Pooh or something fairy tale based. Those usually have a lesson besides loving everyone. People accuse fairytale sof being to unrealistic...but atcually the stories are quite "real world" as far as people doing bad things to others  things and overcoming hardships. You even see some straneg grim stuff in some and sually a good ending (sometimes a sad one..but isn't that life)?Since when did Barney do that???  No wonder many children nowadays  can;t sit still..thy're watching simplistic flashy stuff...

Okay, I got home a little while ago.  I watched the DVD and found it to be just fine.  Morgan liked it. I was hurt cause she had gotten other DVD's that are violent and over her age limit and her Mother did not hide those from her like she did with Hello Kitty.  I did not confront her mother as she is an impossable women. Oh well....

I've never heard any parents complain about Hello Kitty being a violent cartoon.  It is rather strange that she would have this opinion of it.  It might be helpful to approach her on why she has this concern - not from a defensive point of view, but more as a concerned adult.  Is there something about the cartoon that you are not aware of?  Is it a subliminal message that concerns her?  Trying to open up the dialog might help you to better understand where she is coming from and at the same time she might realize she is wrong about Hello Kitty (has it confused with something else?).

Hi Cynde,  Yes my sister-in-law is very overprotective.  It's sad cause I would like little Morgan to enjoy the cartoons I use to watch.  When she's older I would love to get her into Sailor Moon of which I am a huge fan.
