I want to, but can't
Feb 3rd, 2006 at 9:31pm

Okay, well, the problem here is, I want my hair to be more tame when it's down. I wear it in a ponytail usually, but I am bored of that and frankly, I wanna wear it down.

Just one problem.

When I do, it is static-y, frizzy, thick, and poofy. It doesn't look as bad as you'd think, but it's just barely acceptable and is unmanageable to the max. I can't even push it behind my ears, it keeps on popping out from there making me look rediculously shaggy.

Maybe I am doing something wrong. I have no clue how much shampoo/ conditioner I should be using (if anyone would tell me I'd greatly appreciate it , my hair is about shoulder lenghth, if that gives you an idea). I have a feeling I am, as I can tend to get a bit obsessive-compulsive when I'm around soap of any kind.

But anyway....

Basically, what I want is my hair to stop frizzing, stay behind the ears, and actually weigh down a bit more. I'm sure someone has an answer, as this is a common talked-about issue, I'm sure.

Well, thx in advance, then.

I'm assuming your hair is wavy and fairly thick.  Reducing the frizz and poofyness is a common issue with this type hair.  Amazingly, many of the solutions for this involves doing LESS to your hair.

1.  Shampoo less - try to increase the amount of time between shampooing.  You don't have to shampoo every day.

2.  Use less shampoo.  Curly hair is usually drier.  Shampoo dries the hair even more.  Many find using a thin conditioner instead of shampoo works very well.  Diluting your shampoo can also help.

3.  Don't comb or brush your hair when it is wet.  Use your fingers to comb through your hair, then let it air dry.  You might find using a bit (very little) of jojoba oil on your hair when it is damp will also help reduce frizzies and poofiness.  There are also good leave-in conditioners that will help.

4.  Minimize brushing your hair.  Use a wide toothed comb instead.

5.  Jojoba oil on the length of your hair (below the ears) at night will also help with the static and frizzies.

Thanks, umm to reply though:

-Yes, my hair is thick and wavy.
-umm...I shampoo every 3 days...
-I use like a teaspoon of shampoo, maybe a bit more...
-I never brush my hair, and I comb it, but not when wet \
-I don't know how to get jojoba oil
-The shampoos I use are: aussie moist, loreal vive smooth intense, and v05 hydrators. Are these any good? Do they cause problems?
-I use the respective conditioners for the above shampoos

Well, there ya go...now its a little harder to help, isn't it?

But still....opinions and tips are greatly appreciated.

Hey lionheart Smiley

I have a problem with the frizz thing too Tongue...

Anyway, you can get jojoba oil at Treader Joes, or Whole Foods Market....or probably any health food store. I have also found that coconut oil works very well with my waves, so you may want to try that as well.

Also, if you go to the Hair Care Recipes section, and to the thread titled as Kimberlily's leave-in-spray, i have recently started to use this and it helps alot.

HTH Smiley and Good Luck!
