Anyone else facinated with strange/wierd trivia?  Here's a short list of some of my favorites.

When the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers play American Football at home, the stadium becomes the state's third largest city.

The characters Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street were named after Bert the cop and Ernie the taxi driver in Frank Capra's 'Its a Wonderful Life'.

Steel drums are the only non-electric instrument invented in the 20th century.

The longest musical piece written is Vexations by Erik Satie. It consists of a 180 note composition which must be repeated 840 times. The entire piece takes 18 hours and 40 minutes.

The Eisenhower interstate system requires that one mile in every five must be straight. These straight sections are usable as airstrips in times of war or other emergencies.

Virginia Woolf wrote all her books standing.

Rabbits cannot vomit.

The Giant Squid has the largest eyes in the world.

The Grateful Dead were once called The Warlocks.

Moon was Buzz Aldrin's mother's maiden name. (Buzz Aldrin was the second man on the moon in 1969)

It was discovered on a space mission that a frog can throw up. The frog throws up it's stomach first, so the stomach is dangling out of it's mouth. Then the frog uses its forearms to dig out all of the stomach's contents and then swallows the stomach back down again.

Charles de Gaulle's final words were, "It hurts".

In the 1983 film 'Jaws 3D' the shark blows up. Some of the shark guts were stuffed ET dolls which were being sold at the time.

Montana mountain goats will butt heads so hard their hooves fall off.

Wilma Flintstone's maiden name was Wilma Slaghoopal, and Betty Rubble's maiden name was Betty Jean McBricker.

Telly Savalas and Louis Armstrong died on their birthdays.

Spot, Data's cat on Star Trek: The Next Generation, was played by six different cats.

No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver or purple.

That is the most bizzare sounding one to me.  I wouldn't mind being a rabbit, then! :p

As many of you know, I live in Minnesota, and near the Mall of America.  Visitors always ask me about the MOA - here's some interesting trivia.

Mall of America is the largest, fully enclosed retail and family entertainment complex in the U.S. (And another suburb, Edina, has the first covered shopping mall, Southdale).

Seven Yankee Stadiums would fit inside Mall of America.

Mall of America’s 13,300 short tons of steel is nearly twice the amount in the Eiffel Tower.

Walking distance around one level of Mall of America is .57 of a mile.

Spending 10 minutes in every store would take a shopper more than 86 hours to complete their visit to Mall of America.

More than 4,200 couples have been married at Mall of America since opening in August of 1992.

Mall of America is located on the former Metropolitan Sports Stadium which was home to the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Home plate can be found in Camp Snoopy (now known as The Park at MOA). One of the seats from the old Stadium was positioned in the exact location (including elevation) it occupied in the stadium and can be seen today in the mall. This was done to memorialize a 520 foot home run hit by hall-of-famer Harmon Killebrew on June 3, 1967.

There are 30,000 live plants and 400 live trees planted in The Park at MOA™.

Despite being in Minnesota, the mall is largely unheated. Heat is allowed in through skylights above The Park at MOA, heat is produced by lighting fixtures and other devices, and also produced by the employees and guests of the mall, in sufficient amounts to keep it comfortable. Only the mall's entrances are heated. In fact, even during the winter, air conditioning systems need to be run nonstop during peak hours to ensure a comfortable shopping environment.

The mall employs over 12,000 workers. Two nearly identical seven story parking ramps on east and west sides provide approximately 13,000 parking spaces. Parking lots on the north and south of the building, along with nearby overflow parking, bring the total number of spaces up to approximately 20,000.

The Mall of America is, the most visited shopping mall in the world with more than 40 million visitors annually (or roughly eight times the population of the state of Minnesota). This is more than Disney World, Graceland and the Grand Canyon combined.

Shocked

I wouldn't want to live near that bohemoth mall! Noise and traffic must be unbearable.

I heard the one about the interstate system and the one mile in five. I live somewhat near the first section built for the interstate system over 40 years ago. It's the section of I-70 in St. Charles county crossing the Missouri river bridge into St. Louis county at Earth City. (St. Charles is the beginning of the KATY bike trail).

It is big - which makes it a great walking workout!  In the winter, when I can't bike, I go out there on weekends before the stores open and walk 5 miles without retracing my steps! (and get in some serious window shopping  Grin)

Wow, I didn't know that about frogs. I kind of want to see a frog do that, yet at the same time I don't.  Tongue
