I'm very sorry to hear about this, Tarrenae.
Being that I talk with customers over the phone for a living, I have some insight into situations like this, and I can tell you that whomever you spoke with was
100% out of line! If
anyone at my company spoke like that to one of our customers, we'd be fired on the spot. No questions asked.
Dealing with idiots and irate jerks is
part of the job in a customer service position. You either accept that when you sign up for the gig, or you don't do it at all. Plain and simple.
Man, if I had a nickel for every customer I've spoken with at my work who made me feel terrible or completely creeped out or like I wanted to bust up laughing at them, well....I'd be a very,
very rich lady!
But the thing is, you're not allowed to be anything but professional when dealing with a customer,
regardless of how they're treating you. That's just the reality of it.
As to the refund, every manufacturer and distributor has different policies. It was smart of you to write to J.A.S.O.N. directly because manufacturers are usually more likely to give someone a full refund if they are unsatisfied with a product.
So far, the store has offered you an 80% refund, which is still pretty good. But I would wait a bit and see if you can get a 100% refund from the manufacturer (granted, this may be pretty difficult to do without a receipt). Basically, take whichever offers you more money back.
Also, when faced with a situation like this, where you feel that you must call the store and complain, it would be to everyone's benefit if you yourself remained polite through the entire conversation.
Help that person
want to help you. Be polite and be specific. And if the person you're speaking with does become irate with you,
ask to speak to the manager.
I realize, of course, that the person you were speaking with may have been an assistant manager. But there is no excuse on earth for an assistant manager to act that way toward you. You may have to go back to the store and speak with the manager directly to get any real results.
I hope you find some resolution soon. Remember, the
day may be ruined, but that doesn't mean that the
night has to be!
