Rash problem

Hi all,
This morning I woke with a rash on the back of my neck right under the hairline. Very itchy and quite red. Hubby looked at it and thinks it might be a zit but he couldn't tell as I had scatched it raw. I have put Mecca ointment on it and have my hair well away from the area. Now, I was wearing a slik cord necklace for the last few day (of which I removed straight away) could this be the reason for the rash? Any help would be great!

In the summertime, or whenever its really hot, I will get a heat rash on the back of my neck if I wear my hair down. Some cord necklaces I have seen have a metal clasp, does yours and is it possible you have an allergy to that metal? I cannot think of another reason the necklace would cause that sort of thing. I hope you're better soon!

I am with Sasha. I am allergic to almost everything myself and use hydrocortisone cremes when I develop a rash.
Hope it heels quickly!

Sasha, Moonchild, Thanks! No metal on the necklace and I'm not allergic anything, that's the weird part!

hey lisabelle,
that happened to me before. boy is that annoying. i got my hair done and lo and behold the next morning an irritating rash on the back of my neck. i went to the doctor , he gave my cream and a pill to take at night. it went away. he said i caught a bacteria. ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. gross. never again will i do my hair anywhere ever again. i told the salon owner what happened and they said that had never happened before. yeah sure......
hun, go to a doctor if it doesnt clear up in a few days. goodluck. i know how annoying that is and get rid of that necklace.

The only rashes I've had on the back of my neck have been from metal & chemical burn.
I learned the hard way not to wear metal necklaces during the summer. Metal + sweat = red, bumpy rash!!
Also, if I use certain shampoos & conditioners, they will dry out the skin on the back & sides of my neck horridly, causing it to turn red & flake off. Herbal Essences has caused this
big time
in the past...
Cortizone ointments don't seem to help, nor does Neosporin. The metal rash usually goes away on its own if I stop wearing necklaces & I just treat the chemical burn with Curél fragrance-free lotion.

I agree with curlygirl22, you should go to the doctor. Maybe it's some allergic reaction to something you didn't know you were allergic to
get better soon!

I'm glad the rash is starting to go down. It must be rather unpleasant to deal with.

Thanks! It was yucky and I was afraid I would make it really worst cause my nails are long and I would scratch it in my sleep. But today it's all gone!

Whew! Thank goodness...
I'm glad to hear that it's gone, Lisabelle, for that must have been pretty scary. Hopefully you've learned the cause of it by now so as to know what to avoid in the future?
Best of luck!

One thing it might have been, now that I think about it...it could have been a spider bite. They like to bite the warm parts of the body -- the neck being one.
