Piggy-buns!
Oct 15th, 2005 at 1:27pm

I did something with my hair yesterday that I never thought of doing before...piggy buns!  This may not be a new concept to some of you, but it was a revelation to me!  Using the same method that I do for a single bun held w/ stix, I did two smaller ones, side by side, and held them each with one stick.  I placed each stick in so that they were angled in and crossed each other at the back-center of my head (to help you visualize, the looked like "angry" eyebrows that crossed each other!), it was really cute- secure, too.  I got lots of compliments, and it was so easy to do.  BTW, the method I use for "sticking" my buns (sound funny, hee-hee  Grin) is this:

I twist my hair into a low bun, take a stick thru the botton-underside, flip it up & over, and push stick down through hair.  I place the second stick in just for show, one stick holds really well for me.  Sometimes I keep both sticks to one side, forming a narrow "X", and sometimes I will put the stick in from the other side making a wide "X".

This being said, ::holds right hand up::, I solemnly swear to continue to look for new and interesting ways to use my hair sticks,  and I vow to ALWAYS share my ideas with my Hair Sisters & Brothers.  ::places hand back down on lap, takes a deep breath::    Grin

That sounds cute!  If you have a pic, I'd love to see it.  Is it like the "Flamenco" on this page, but with 2 sticks instead of 4?

I'm glad people noticed, Maggie! I did something like that in June, but no one said anything--except for my mom, but only after I said, "Look at what I did!"  Tongue

Yes, except the sticks were set in more sideways, if that makes sense.  You'd be able to see them on either side of my head if you were looking at me from the front.  I don't have a pic, but I am working on getting a new digi camera, so I will finally be able to post some pics, yay!

Juri:  I think the only reason my hair got noticed is because it was an "out-of-the-norm" hairstyle for this tiny little area!  In fact, I have yet to see another person from around here wearing hair sticks at all!  That really stinks when you do something creative and no one notices, you feel like everyone should notice and say something!

No kidding! lol! I was at an event where pretty much all of the women had bobs, but even my grandma didn't say anything. Then again, she didn't even notice when my mom went to her house with a new haircut... Happy

That style sounds so pretty. *sigh* Too bad my hair will never do it. It's far too thin.  Sad

Oh, never say never, my hair is thin too.  My ponytail is only about 2.5" around (I typed in 2.5' the first time, boy- that'd be funny, huh?).  My hair makes a very small bun, & my two buns are even smaller (giggle-giggle  Grin)  If you really feel like your hair is too thin, I think it would be cool to try working something like a smallish sheer scarf in with your hair when twisting it up into a bun, or two buns, for that matter-just get two small scarves- or cut a larger one.  It would be really different to see the material twisted up in your hair & it would add some thickness, too.  Hmmm...this is a pretty neat idea- why didn't I think of this before???  I'm going to have to try this myself...now where's that scarf at....?

...I'll let you know how it works!  Grin

Sounds pretty did you have two buns when you were finish or three? I tried for one bun the way you did it but with a pencil it's a bun alright but I have this part that sticks out like a very short pony tail.

I had two when I was finished, they weren't on the sides of my head like princess leah or anything, they were more to the back of my head.  If you are having trouble with a tail sticking out (this happens to me a lot, especially since I just got a blunt cut)  just try adjusting your tension when your twisting your buns up, try to get the tail wrapped up in the bun so it can't flip out of it.  Although, sometimes I just leave them stick out cuz I think it looks cute...depends on my mood!  Keep trying, you really can't do it wrong, if anything, you'll just create a new hairdo!  Grin
