The Army Brat Comes Home
Aug 2nd, 2005 at 10:11am

My son showed up yesterday and first thing he said is "You did quit smoking, you don't smell like a cigarette" I stepped back and said "What else?? He said "You're the skinniest I've ever seen you in my life"
I have to be honest though, I haven't totaly quit, I'm down to 2-4 cigs a day. gonna completly quit by 8/9 when I see my doctor who is will be totaly shocked.
My boys are going to send me to Atlantic City to see Burton Cummings (ex Guess Who) next month as a reward.

Congrats...That's quite an acomplishment! I don't smoke myself, but know people who struggle to quit almost constantly. Losing weight and quitting smoking...Now that's will power!  Grin

That's super!! Cheesy

Since I've heard that gradually cutting down on how much one smokes works better in the long run than going cold turkey, I think you'll meet your goal. Good luck!

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

and you are still alive to tell about it??  I'm only a 4 pack a day second hand smoker.  Both parents were 2 pack a day smokers and I have the lung damage to prove it.  Tongue

Yeah, it is easier cuz I'm training myself to resist the urge to smoke. The thought of  leaving the house for 3-4 hours w.o cigarettes used to send me into a panic that would have me tearing half the purdy hairs out of my head. Now the thought of life without cigs is not so scary.

I'm surprised myself.  I may have some scar tissue but it goes to show - lung capacity can really get better again.  We quite when my husband came out of surgery to fix a 95% blockage in his left anterior descending - very scary and makes quitting real easy...g

That's good to hear! Too bad both my grandfathers weren't more like you. They smoked a lot and one died from prostate cancer (might not be smoking-related, but you never know) and the other died from lung cancer.
