Long Hair on the Antiques roadshow.
Jul 29th, 2005 at 3:10pm

Hi All,

I was just watching the Antiques roadshow (US version) and the last thing they showed was a lady with a beautiful collection of jewelry made from hair.  She even had book from Peterson 1860's on how to make hair jewelry!  Shocked Also she had pics of the Sutherland sisters and one of a lady who hung her long hair clipped to a clothes line to dry it!   The lady herself, who was in her 60's, and had her hair up in a large bun.  She showed a picture of her hair down and it was a long lovley silver- black mane she hadden cut in years, she just trimmed her ends now and then.  I was like Wow! I wish I could get those books she had.  I have started to collect my own hair from my brush and would love to make jelwery or rats from it.

How fun!

Another use for collecting those hairs...I had a great aunt who used to use one of her hairs to tie off her braids at night.  Honest, I saw her do it ...g

Darn, I would have liked to see that.  What network is the Antique Road Show on?  I would catch it while channel surfing, but I don't watch it consistently.

I wish I had seen that! I wonder if it'll be shown again sometime in the near future.   ???

Khrome--As far as I know, Antiques Roadshow is only on PBS.

Not antique show related, but I have to ask:

For those of you collecting your own hair for rats and whatnot, (or have known people that do), how do save it?  I've tried this, and just end up with a gross matted ball.  I'm trying to put the ends on a piece of tape hanging on the inside of my bathroom closet, but it is so time consuming that I only think of it once every couple weeks and have only hung up 10-20 hairs.

Hi Valerie,

What I do is when I take the hair from the brush I gather it into one long peice and twist it into a curl.  Then I add to the curl, this keeps it neat and not a birds nest.  Smiley
