Popcorn?
Jul 16th, 2005 at 9:35am

I swear this is about hair...While hanging out at my boyfriends mother's house, I found some coconut oil in her kitchen cabinet. It says on the back of the jar its pure 76 degree coconut oil, but its use is for popcorn...Could I put this in my hair or would it be no good because its been prepared for cooking? I'm always sooo clueless!   I asked this question in "Au Natural", but got no response...I just thought I'd try it out here!  Grin

I am assuming this is virgin coconut oil. Sooo...
You could use it in your hair, but you might find this very heavy for a daily oil treatment; however, as a deep oil prep before a wash, the coconut oil should be fine.

On a parallel with that, many ppl use olive oil which is cooking stuff, for their hair. So I guess why not? But as NR says I, too, think it must be a bit "heavy"

Virgin coconut oil is good for cooking or on the hair. "Pure" coconut oil comes from a variety of processes, some of which render it unpalatable and give it a woodsmoke smell.

It just takes a couple of drops in the hands to moisturize the hair. I have given myself deep treatments, and have found that coconut oil comes out easily with light conditioner, but olive oil requires repeated shampooings, which can't possibly be good for the hair.
