Help with longer hair

Okay, recently.. now that my hair has reached waist length and inching it's way towards my tailbone, I've found it starting to get harder to manage. I know I need a trim, I'm starting to get those "fairy tale" ends, but I've noticed that I need to start changing my routines...

I'm on a new shampoo and conditioner (Silk Elements) and that's helping, but I'm having trouble with longer hairstyles (a lot of the times, when I finish and updo it's just too bulky and heavy to have it up that way) and longer hair care.

Girls.. those of you who are waist length and beyond, would you share some advice on how y'all deal with these really long lengths? I really love my hair, and I've realized that I will keep my hair at least waist length for.. well, forever if I can

but I could use some friendly advice and support...

Ho Boy! Well it's always good news and bad news isn't it.

I'm not waist but I'me recently having one of those "this is different" stages.

I think sometimes you actually have to learn to move differently, use opposite hands from different directions ... that sort of thing.

Product recommendations are everywhere (I use LouiseMarieLonghairs and I'm sticking with it) ... I do think no matter what you use the idea is to get some pliability into those ends if you can, and of course no matter how much you want to yank - don't Roll Eyes

Updo's - I'm already finding that for comfort I have to divide the hair into sections, secure seperately and then bring them together if you like ...g

And with tapered or layered hair, braids get hairy... so I started using lots of shea butter leave-in. Buns had to be either repositioned or simply a different bun had to be used (figure 8, infinity, rosebud) HTH Anais

This all helped immensely.

Anais, what's a rosebud bun? And yes, I've noticed braids help.. especially a braided bun.. it feels much lighter than a regular bun.. (not sure why though)

And yes, I'm wearing my hair up more often than not, and if I can manage to keep my hair at the nape of my neck, it's easier to handle.

Congratulations on needing to ask this question and reach waist length.

I too found that braiding helped alot once I reached waist. I find shea butter too heavy for my hair, but jojoba oil works great for helping to control the "sticky-outy" ends. If oil isn't available, just wetting the palms of my hands while braiding works well for keeping a braid neat longer.

I also found that making a bun with the braid is a great way for securing hair in hot and/or windy conditions where you don't want to keep re-doing a bun or worry about the frizzy braid syndrome.

Basically you make a half-up bun with one hairstick, then use the rest of your hair to wrap around the first bun. Secure with the second hairstick. Hope this helps Anais
