Figure Eight Bun
Jul 6th, 2005 at 1:19am

I think I like the figure eight ALMOST as much as the French twist.  Definitely like it better than a regular bun because my hair get's heavy in that small of a space.  A figure eight distributes the weight better.

...

The "shawl" is really a wide scarf that my best friend made me for Christmas.  I've found it works well as a shawl in the summertime!

PS - Please ignore the dying palm in the background...

That's a nice looking bun!  Your haircolor is very shiny and healthy-looking.

Thanks all!

Shine - I'm just very very lucky.  I don't put anything in my hair except shampoo and conditioner.  I think my body is overcompensating by making healthy hair because all my other cells in my body are unhealthy.  Hahaha  Smiley

You're right, there's no way you could bottle that shine!  How do you do that bun style?  I have never seen it before, and it is simply BEAUTIFUL!

Many thanks again!

Juri - I just got those sticks in the mail today.  Love them!  I added the url to my stick gallery in my sig, so if you go there you can see a close up shot and all the details about them. It's the "Peruvian Princess" by Maiden's Treasure.

Pan - Ha, apparently I'm not making the bun the same way other people do!  I did a search for instructions, and most of them say:  Start with a basic bun.  Keep doing the same motion until you have buns stacked on top of each other.  Take the top bun and flip it over to form the top part of the "8".

The way I've been doing it is I start with a basic bun and make one rotation.  When you reach your starting point, put a finger against your head above the bun, continue rolling the bun but in the opposite direction around your finger, then under it.  So first you make the bottom of the "8", then the top.  While you are holding the entire thing with one hand, insert the first stick upwards on the top part, then go downward with the stick, catching some hairs close to your head and weaving it in and out of the twist.  Do the same for the other side.

There's a variation of this I haven't tried much called the Infinity Bun, and is the Figure 8 turned on it's side.

Thanks, Cynde! I thought they looked like sticks from Maiden's Treasure. How are those hairsticks working out for you? I've had my eye on the "Rustic Autumn" sticks, but wasn't sure how well they would hold my hair up.

They're working out pretty good.  I had a hard time getting used to putting them in because the sticks are really thin and it feels like I may break them.  But I just have to remember that bamboo is pretty resilient.  They are also lightest but the longest of my sticks.

"Rustic Autumn" sticks are gorgeous!    Cheesy
