my hair is unhappy :(
Jun 19th, 2005 at 6:06am

for the past few weeks my hair has been really unmanageable. I think it must be to do with winter, because in the last few weeks the winter weather has just started to kick in. My hair just feels like straw - really dry, really brittle, really frizzy, really hard to handle. After all of my hair experiences I've kind of come to the conclusion that my hair is actually naturally a bit frizzy, but it just gets worse in certain weather conditions.

Does anyone else get this super-dry, super-breakable hair in winter? What do you do to combat it? I guess my hair's always been that way when the weather gets cold but because I'm taking more notice of my hair lately, it's probably annoying me more  Angry

My hair definetly feels drier in the winter.  Oiling with jojoba oil daily really made all the difference for me, and wearing my hair up most of the time.

Where do you live? We're getting into miserable hot summer here.

I think oiling will help a lot. Your winter is drier than your summer at least in some Aussie places, maybe that's the reason why. My hair is not like that in winter, but we get rain and humidity in winter not in the hot season.
<sigh> How I wish I were Down Under now!

Winter was rough on my hair this year. As others have said oil was the only thing that kept my hair somewhat under control. Wearing it up and coming here to see everyone elses beautiful hair definitely kept me on the path to long hair.  I always felt better when I would take time out to do things for my hair, deep condition, oil well, snip split ends. Good luck this winter and happy oiling!

You are most likely right about the winter weather making your hair dry.  I haven't been paying attention for a full year yet to know if mine does that, but after reading your post I suspect  it does.  The last few weeks my hair has been much softer, less dry.  Here I thought it was what I was doing   Roll Eyes-- but I'll bet it's because we're getting into summer here.

Hang in there, your hair will survive and grow any way. ((((hug))))

Hey!  Don't worry!! Your hair will calm down.  A little jojoba down the length will help your frizzies.  Do deep conditioning w/heat once a week.

Drink lots of pure water and eat your veggies.

Imagine your hair looking shiney and feeling silky soft in your hands.

Do you have a silk pillow case yet??

Be very gentle with your washings & conditionings-no hair dryers!  Check your current products for -cones.  Consider eliminating them.  Do you use AVC rinses once in a while?  If you're using a hairbrush, try just a wide tooth comb instead.

Above all, after doing your best be patient.  Your hair has cycles, too.

GOOD LUCK!

Lots of good suggestions have already ben made.  I'd just add trying a vinegar rinse to make sure the problem isn't product build up.
