buns, playing around with new styles
Jun 12th, 2005 at 5:12am

(sorry if this takes a while to load, there's four pics in it)

Last night I was playing around with a new way of plaiting my hair, when you part it in a y shape rather than just dividing it at the nape of your neck.  Then, when I couldn't put my hands on a hairtie cos my mum had tidyed my rppm, I wraped it in a bun and held it with two makeshift hairsticks (paintbrushes!).

I tried it with the end loose, tucked under, then took it out and sort of fliped it.  Here are the results in that order

...

...

...

Then thismorning I tried a sockbun with this lacy thing I have (not what you think of as modern lace, but its nice and soft and squishy)

I put it in t pony, wraped the lace arounf it, fliped the hair ofer and secured it with a hairtie.  Then I wraped the ends around and put another hairtie around it.  I might take a photo of it before I wraped the ends around, but I want to try doing this after I've ragcurled my hair.

Very nice!

The 4th one is similar to my hairstyle today.  I did a sock bun, then made 2 braids of the hair hanging down and wrapped them around the bun.

oh, thankyou!  Great idea!  I'm so going to try that now.  I tried rag curling my hair last night (to do a curley version of the bun), but its wash day today, and in the end I just plaited my hair with a part cos when I pulled it back for a bun itlooked sooooo greasy Sad  Pluss I needed longer with my hair in the rags, I had them in for nine hours and my hair was still wet when I took them out.  Next time I'll use wider rags and just comb alittle water through my hair rather than soaking it, and not do it when my hair needs to be washed, it holds a curl better when its clean

thanks. May I ask how long your hair is? can you manage mini buns?  My friend once did two buns for me when I had short layeredhair that I couldn't get into a pony.  She did two high pigtails, then twisted little pieces of my hair untill they curled up on themselves and pinned them.  It didn't take her very long, and looked really cool.  I don't know how well that would work woth longer hair though, I'll try it sometime.

Nice pics! Cheesy

Am I right if I think that with longer hair, the mini buns would turn something like the famous Leia buns?

depends, mine were quite farback on my head, that part up the top just above where your skull ends and dips in to become the neck, so they didn't really. I just looked like an anamae (however you spell that, jappanese cartoon thingy)

nice styles Kathleen.  One day, with longer hair, and a LOT more practice I too shall be able to "sort of flip it" and get a great looking style  Grin

heh, thanks. I guess my hair was in a behaving mood (well, it had to be, All I had to do was to sit and study, whenever I do anything important (like see my boyfriend, or just going out in generat) it doesn't behave.)

I like the third one, it was actually really stable.  Its hard to see whats happening there, but its really comfory.  probably wouldn't worq with longer hair though, but you could adapt it and with a bit of ribon make a shorter than usual pony.

just an update, I did a dutch plait today, when my hair was a little damp and left it in all day.  This is the sock bun (which isn't actually a sock, just lace) left out.  I can't wait to try ringlets!)
