Summer Hair Survey
Jun 1st, 2005 at 5:18am

Let's share our summer hair tips! Smiley

1. Does your scalp become dryer/greasier during the summer? If yes, how do you react?

2. How do you protect your hair from sun?

3. How do you protect your hair from salt/chlorine water?

4. Have you bought any products designed specifically for summer hair? If yes, what? How have you liked the product?

5. Do your summer activities set any special requirements for caring and/or styling your hair. How do you cope?

6. Do you have any special summer hair styles? If yes, what?

7. Do you have any special summer hair toys that you don't use so much during other seasons? If yes, what?

8. Is your hair easier to take care of during summer or during winter?

9. Shorthaired people sometimes ask, doesn't long hair feel too hot in hot weather? What is your answer?

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ?

Here are my answers:

1. I don't know yet- this is my first summer as a hair conscious person.  Grin
2. Probably a scarf will be my first option.
3. I don't think I swim much in salt/chlorine water- I prefer lakes. Grin Probably I would simply soak my hair in fresh water first, and give it some extra conditioning afterwards.
4. Nope.
5. Only possible traveling. I don't think it would cause much extra trouble- at easiest, I could wear a french braid day and night, and cut a piece of my shampoo bar to double as body and hair shampoo. Easy!
6. Single or double braid& bandana folded to triangle and tied in nape.
7. I have some bobby pins with silk flowers that I plan to wear...
8. Don't know for sure yet, but I suspect that summer will be easier.
9. No. On the contrary, a nice damp bun is quite cool.
10. I'm usually even more playful with my hair than usually.  Cheesy

I'll nibble:

1. Does your scalp become dryer/greasier during the summer? If yes, how do you react?

No change, our climate is mild but I do run/sweat more and that usually means more washing - still no change as long as I keep shampoo mild

2. How do you protect your hair from sun?

I don't really.  Just wear it up.  In two buns when I'm running

3. How do you protect your hair from salt/chlorine water?

Not really a swimmer.  I protect it from salty sweat by pre-oiling before the runs

4. Have you bought any products designed specifically for summer hair? If yes, what? How have you liked the product?

Sort of - I'm into the LML thing right now and liking that very much so far.  Other products include Ojon Restorative, Kiehls leave-in with sun protectant

5. Do your summer activities set any special requirements for caring and/or styling your hair. How do you cope?

I just have to wash more and wear it up diligently

6. Do you have any special summer hair styles? If yes, what?

Same situation - up up and up

7. Do you have any special summer hair toys that you don't use so much during other seasons? If yes, what?

those honking big hair clamps that have nasty ridges but allow ventilition

8. Is your hair easier to take care of during summer or during winter?

Yes, it dries faster, but then again, no, because I sweat all over again and it's wet

9. Shorthaired people sometimes ask, doesn't long hair feel too hot in hot weather? What is your answer?

Oh Lordy NO!  That's part of what I love about long hair - it's up and out of my way - to compete with that in comfort it would have to be buzz short

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ?

All of the above stuff about wearing it up and it drying fast

I really love summer  Grin...g

1. Does your scalp become dryer/greasier during the summer? If yes, how do you react? I don't really notice any difference.

2. How do you protect your hair from sun? I wear a scarf or cap frequently.

3. How do you protect your hair from salt/chlorine water? I wet my hair thoroghly with fresh water, then add a bit of conditioner to my hair.  I braid my hair wet, then put the braid into a plastic baggie and secure with a scrunchie (that just happens to match my swim suit!).  When done swimming, I rinse my hair with fresh water, then shampoo and condition.

4. Have you bought any products designed specifically for summer hair? If yes, what? How have you liked the product? no

5. Do your summer activities set any special requirements for caring and/or styling your hair. How do you cope? Bicycling with a helmet is a major issue with me.  The harness on the helmet will really damage a person's hair.  To avoid the damage, I put my hair in a single or double braids, then put a "skull cap" on to protect my hair, then the helmet.  If I will be biking all day, I put the braids into protective sleeves.

6. Do you have any special summer hair styles? If yes, what?  hmmmm, does sticking the ends of my braids back up into my bike helmet count?

7. Do you have any special summer hair toys that you don't use so much during other seasons? If yes, what? I'm not sure I would call them hair toys, but my braid sleeves are only worn in the summer when I am biking.

8. Is your hair easier to take care of during summer or during winter? I will say summer, only because I don't have to worry as much about going outside with wet hair.

9. Shorthaired people sometimes ask, doesn't long hair feel too hot in hot weather? What is your answer? I cannot stand to have anything on my neck when it is hot.  Having long hair lets me get my hair off my neck so easily.

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ? Having long hair!  Grin

Let's share our summer hair tips! Smiley

1. Does your scalp become dryer/greasier during the summer? If yes, how do you react?  Ugh.  Greasier.  Last summer I'd wash more often, but since I've had good luck with my aloe/eo mixture so far, I'm hoping I won't have too wash more frequently this year.

2. How do you protect your hair from sun?   By staying out of the sun.  I'm so pale I break out in a rash when I'm exposed to the sun for too long, so my hair isn't exposed very often.  If I had to protect it, I'd wear a bandanna.

3. How do you protect your hair from salt/chlorine water?  By not swimming.  Grin

4. Have you bought any products designed specifically for summer hair? If yes, what? How have you liked the product?  I bought the Chagrin Valley Summer Citrus Shampoo bar, but haven't tried it yet.  It's still unseasonally cool here, so I haven't needed it.

5. Do your summer activities set any special requirements for caring and/or styling your hair. How do you cope?  For travelling, the shampoo bars are wonderful.  I also use lotion bars when travelling for a leave-in conditioner and daily oiling.

6. Do you have any special summer hair styles? If yes, what?  Yes.  Up.

7. Do you have any special summer hair toys that you don't use so much during other seasons? If yes, what?  My blue and green hairtoys, since those are the colors I wear in warm weather.

8. Is your hair easier to take care of during summer or during winter?  Winter.  It's drier in the winter, but it's easier to add oil to hair than to take (and keep) it out.

9. Shorthaired people sometimes ask, doesn't long hair feel too hot in hot weather? What is your answer?  As long as it's up, it's very comfortable.

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ?   Dries faster, and really, wearing it up is very cool and comfortable.

1. Does your scalp become dryer/greasier during the summer? If yes, how do you react?
I think my scalp is dry most of the time.  I hate the flakiness 'cause I wear black yearround.  My remedy is to try scritching.  See http://www.hairgasm.com/horncombs/scritchycomic.htm for detailed directions.

2. How do you protect your hair from sun?
Hat, bandana, stay indoors.

3. How do you protect your hair from salt/chlorine water?
Stay out of salt/chlorine water.

4. Have you bought any products designed specifically for summer hair? If yes, what? How have you liked the product?
No.

5. Do your summer activities set any special requirements for caring and/or styling your hair. How do you cope?
A pony under my hat has worked so far, soon I'll try a pinned up french braid.

6. Do you have any special summer hair styles? If yes, what?
More pony tails.

7. Do you have any special summer hair toys that you don't use so much during other seasons? If yes, what?
Scrunchies, a hair clip (similar to a claw) to clip up a pony sometimes.
8. Is your hair easier to take care of during summer or during winter?
Hmmm.  I have no clue.  This will be my first summer of growing my hair long.

9. Shorthaired people sometimes ask, doesn't long hair feel too hot in hot weather? What is your answer?
My answer: "Not to me" Tongue

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ?
I have soooo many options of wearing it.  All up, all down, 1/2 & 1/2 and of course, LL hairsticks glisten and sparkle in the sun light!!

1. Does your scalp become dryer/greasier during the summer? If yes, how do you react?

Just a little greasier because of perspiration, but nothing that really bothers me.

2. How do you protect your hair from sun?

Until joining this site and deciding to care properly for my hair, I never gave hair protection any thought. This summer I will be very generous with oiling since during the summer my hair does like to dry out.

3. How do you protect your hair from salt/chlorine water?

Haven't in the past, now when I do go to the beach, you can bet I'll use many of the tips discussed in the forum.

4. Have you bought any products designed specifically for summer hair? If yes, what? How have you liked the product?

No.

5. Do your summer activities set any special requirements for caring and/or styling your hair. How do you cope?

Because of wind, my hair is always put up and out of my way in the summer. Now that I've learned to braid it myself, I'll probably leave it in a braid 90% of the time. Hate it when it gets in my face.

6. Do you have any special summer hair styles? If yes, what?

Pony tails and a braid. During cooler months, I like it loose at home.

7. Do you have any special summer hair toys that you don't use so much during other seasons? If yes, what?

No.

8. Is your hair easier to take care of during summer or during winter?

I would say it's simpler in the winter because of the added precautions and styling required during the summer. Not that I'm complaining mind you.  Wink I also like summer because going out with a wet head of hair is no big deal and it dries so fast.

9. Shorthaired people sometimes ask, doesn't long hair feel too hot in hot weather? What is your answer?

Long hair is only too warm when it lays on the back of my neck; thus, a pony tail or braid. Besides, a nice wet braid on your head has a nice cooling effect.

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ?

Why limit it to summer?  Grin

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ?

1. I think about the same. Maybe a bit greasier.
2. This year I will wear hats and scarfs- maybe products with sunsreen in them.
3. I usually don't get my head wet when I go in the pool- I clip my hair up and keep hair above water.  Otherwise I rinse hair thoroughly after swimming- sometimes shampoing causes more drying-might invest in a swimming cap.
4. Not really,yet anyway.
5. No
6. No, just french twists and ponytails but It wear those in the winter too.
7. No.
8. About the same-in the winter sometimes I have to blow dry lightly if my hair doesn't dry before I leave the house- I don't like doing that.- In the summer - just let it air dry. My hair might need a tad more moisture in the winter.  this is the first year I'm going to be paying big attention to this.
9. It's not hot if you put it up!!
10. So many different cool ways to style it! And my hair is still too short at nearly BSL to do some of the things I wish I could!

1. Does your scalp become dryer/greasier during the summer? If yes, how do you react?
not sure since i tend to put even more stuff in my hair during summer. and since it's the first summer i'll be oiling, all things are possible with me.

2. How do you protect your hair from sun?
i recently found an emulsion for hair that does NOT contain alcohol denat. !! it's Phyto beach. and smells great. i have no idea if it protects any better than oiling with jojoba, but my guess is that i'll be doing both anyway.

3. How do you protect your hair from salt/chlorine water?
i never go to public pools (i am utterly disgusted by them and they give me bad memories). i do swim in the ocean sometimes (well it's right there in front of me after all), i wear it in a gigh bun, and try not to tuck under. painful neck guarenteed but less annoyment with rinsing out hair and blablabla.

4. Have you bought any products designed specifically for summer hair? If yes, what? How have you liked the product?
yes, see above. i used to use a sunscreen for hair by kerastase, but as ai remember it's smell, it's pure alcohol! so was the wella stuff i bought two summers ago. that one gave me great volume though (which only confirms it's drying effect).

5. Do your summer activities set any special requirements for caring and/or styling your hair. How do you cope?
euh, i don't think so.

6. Do you have any special summer hair styles? If yes, what?
not that i know, maybe i'll try twoo braids ones, but i think i'll look stupid Roll Eyes

7. Do you have any special summer hair toys that you don't use so much during other seasons? If yes, what?
i'll try to wear more often my LL sticks. since wheather is soo unprodictable here, i usually don't dare to use them since it might start raining Roll Eyes

8. Is your hair easier to take care of during summer or during winter?
the same i guess. i'll probably have to wash more often since i have very loose hands with oil Roll Eyes

9. Shorthaired people sometimes ask, doesn't long hair feel too hot in hot weather? What is your answer?
Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

10. What is best thing about having a long hair in the summer ?
it's so easy to put up and don't be bothered anymore, i'd so hate sticky hair in my neck!
