I'm dying to use honey on my hair but I'm not sure how or what to do...I read somewhere that honey can be used as a sort of hair mask. Like, you just put some on/in your hair, slip on a shower cap and leave it on for about half an hour, letting your body heat wam up the honey in order for it to do its thing. 'Course my hair is still fairly short so it would be easy for me to do. Anybody else have a honey of a hair recipe? Gabi, I read where you even put honey in your shampoo, is that right?

I like to add a squirt of honey and some aloe vera gel to conditioner--makes it work much better, and it makes a good deep conditioning treatment--cover and leave in for as long as you can stand it. You can add honey to shampoo, or dilute honey in water to make a final rinse (makes the hair shiny). Mixing honey with a couple of crushed aspirin tablets makes a nice face mask and helps to get rid of blackheads.

I've never heard of coating your hair with straight honey. I'd imagine it would be difficult to work through your hair, even if you warmed it first. And trying to wash stiff sticky honey hair? Not for me, thanks. 8)

I made an awesome hair rinse with vinegar and honey. I heated a cup of water and dissolved 3 generous Tablespoons of honey in the water then put it in a plastic pitcher. I added 2 cups of white vinegar and filled the rest with warm water from the shower. I think I also added some sandalwood essential oil.

This is the extent of my experience of honey and my hair.

I don't put it in the shampoo - I mix it about half and half with whatever rinse out conditioner I'm using and then use a hair dying squirt bottle with honey and vinegar mixed (I just eyeball it at about a .5 oz mix to 4 oz water approx) and pour that on the scalp right over that mess - then rinse out.

I vary it and don't do it all the time but it is nice and slippery and detangling Grin

I've only tried one honey recipie that someone had posted in a hair care community on livejournal. It involved honey, yogurt, and bananas. Sadly I didn't get great results, it dried out my hair and left it feeling unclean, I gave in and washed it. Twice in as many days, which I hate having to do, but it just didn't feel good. It may have been the rest of the recipie that caused this but she had said it did wonders for her so I thought I'd give it a shot. A few other girls got results similar to mine.

I finally got around to experimenting a little with the honey idea. In about 2 ounces of conditioner (i'm using Suave juicy green apple) I added a good teaspoonful of honey. Conditioned my hair as usual after shampooing. I'm on day 3 of using my honey conditioner and my hair is very soft! In fact, for now, I've stopped using aloe or any other kind of styling products because my hair seems to be behaving itself quite well.

It truly is wonderful! I use about a tbl of conditioner, tbl of honey tsp of aloe. work thru hair, clip on top of head with a clip while I finish rest of showering...and rinse. Yummy hair, and it really brings out my wavies!

i got a book from the library called, Naturally Healthy Hair- herbal treatments and daily care for fabulous hair. by- mary beth janssen. she has a lot of info about honey.
she has a yummy recipie for dry hair:
Moisturizing Banana Hair Conditioner

one small ripe banana
one tablespoon honey
one teaspoon almond oil

basically you just mash up the banana add the honey and oil, and put on freshly shampooed hair. then cover your hair with a plastic bag and leave it on for about
30 minutes then rinse

i haven't personally tried it though i will in the coming week, GOOD LUCK Cheesy

Good luck, Beesan! And Rogue... I hope it works out for you.

I am LOVING!(!!!) my honey-vinegar rinse... 4 generous TBS of honey dissolved in a cup of warm water, then like.. two TBS of ACV and another two cups of cool water to top it off.... I make sure all my hair gets saturated, and I don't rinse it out...

My hair is so slippery and soft and SHINEY!!!! Love it!

I tried a honey ACV rinse last night too. I think I liked it better than just ACV - my hair seemed less flat after it dried. But I'm still experimenting, so I don't know if I"ll like it long-term.

Be careful making the banana mixture! I've seen two posts so far (can't remember who) and they had a hard time getting the banana strings washed out. So you probably want to make it in a blender full-blast, or "shave" the strings off. I think you can run the edge of a spoon down the sides to get them off.
