Braiding examples

Soooo many of you ask about braiding.  I just ran across a site I hadn't seen before (or at least I don't remember it - at my age I might have visited it yesterday and today it would be a new experience!)  Anyway, this site shows some wonderful examples of braiding with ribbons.  The instructions page links back toDreamWeaver Braiding instructions, one of the best braiding sites.

Check out Melissa's Braids and be inspired to wear ribbons and flowers in your hair!

I'm practicing Nautilus braids, and the principle seems simple enough: it's just a diagonal braid pinned up.

Braiding ribbons like that is more difficult though. But I'm not going to give up...

I've learned that stitching the ribbons into the braids after the braids are done makes the ribbons look much nicer and it is easier than braid them in.

I was wondering about how she gets the ribbons in.  They look so neat, I thought they had been stitched in afterwards.  But Melissa told somebody at the Long Hair Community ( and they posted it) that she actually braids them in!   They also posted her instructions for doing ribbons.  I would give a link but I can't find it right now.

I have braided with the ribbons.  It can work if the ribbon is thick enough.  Sometimes, however, the hair and the ribbon are so slippery it is difficult to braid the ribbon at the same time and have it look nice.  When that happens, sewing/weaving the ribbon in after works great.

Do you have pictures?  I'm trying to imagine myself sewing ribbons into my braids and I think it would turn into a giant mess in back where you can't see them.   ???

I don't have any pictures right now.  I'm hoping to get a copy of a picture of my neighbor's hair that I did for her.  If/when I do, I will post it.
