Oiling techniques
Apr 15th, 2005 at 6:52pm

Hello, everyone.  I am just wondering about oiling hair and if anyone has a special or particular way of doing it.
I have a lot of hair and must take care to insure all ends are coated.  Is that true for you as well?
Does anyone dip the ends into oil?
Please share your techniques if you have any.

I don't have thick hair, so making sure the ends get their moisture is not difficult.  I usually just put my jojoba oil (a drop or two) in the palm of my hand, rub my hands together, then run my hair between my hands - concentrating on the ends first.

When I do oil with jojoba, I just put some drops in my palm then pass my palms through my hair, just like bikerbraid said. But I tend to use more than what I read other people here, do.
THe other hair oil I use, with jasmine scent, I use much more, I become a real oil slick. Scalp, hair length, a little massage on the scalp.

When I oil with jojoba I noticed that the moment I start oiling my hair, it becomes so flighty it literally stands out, strands of hair "flying" off my shoulders etc. Does that happen to anybody else? It doesn't happen with my amla/jasmine hair oil.

When oil with jojoba, my hair becomes soft and more manageable.  The extra "weight" helps keep my fine hair under control.

Just to be clear: bbb is boar's bristle brush?
I hadn't thought of using a brush.  Where do you find a boar's bristle brush?  I don't think I've seen one in a store.

G_L,
where do you get your amala/jasmine oil?

Thanks, everyone for contributing with your answers!
I'm learning a lot  Grin

If it is for just a daily oiling, a couple drops run along the length.  If my hair is in braids, I will usually re-oil the tail of it before I leave in the morning and again at night when I go to bed with them in.  It never looks or feels oily.  I've been over oiling my hair on days that I'm in braids to try and prevent any damage from spreading up, and it also keeps the braid looking neater throughout the day.

When I'm doing a honey/olive oil treatment I put my hair in a high pony tail on my head then dip the length in a bowl.  I use a plastic comb to make sure everything gets coated, then wrap it in a loose bun on top of my head and let it soak.

8) Shopping trip!

New Question:
What type of oil is most popular?

Olive oil is first for me, followed by jojoba.

Sakina this is the brand I am using.

http://www.dabur.com/EN/exports/Hair_Care/default.asp

I'm posting the link for their international trade. You can't order online I'm afraid, so I buy whatever I find here (not much, that Amla Lite, that I can't find here, sounds good, too!)
I use the Amla Hair Oil and the Jasmine Hair Oil. But because you can only find it in one shop here - and it's not assured - I use it rarely. I have also bought the Vatika Henna Conditioning Shampooo but haven't tried it yet.
There's a link of distributors for each country, that might work. Cheesy

Styg, here's the list of ingredients for each product. You could give us your professional opinion  Smiley Smiley

Amla Hair Oil: Vegetable Oil, Mineral Oil, Extract of Indian Gooseberry, Perfume,TBHQ (Antioxidant)

Jasmine Hair Oil: Vegetable Oil, Mineral Oil, Colours-Yellow, Perfume, Antioxidant Tert.butylhydroquinone (TBHQ)

Vatika Henna Cream Conditioning Shampoo: Key ingredients (fishy, huh?) SLES, CAPB, extracts of henna, shikakai and green almonds
It says on the bottle "NO harmful chemicals"

Now, should I be worried? Pls tell me that my beloved Jasmine Hair Oil is not trash?! Shocked ??? Undecided
