Looking for a serger that's not dreadful expensive
Mar 31st, 2005 at 12:20am

Hi All,
I was amazed to see how many of us sew; too cool.

I am looking to buy my first serger and I'm trying to go as inexpensively as possible.

I've looked at Singer and Brother around $200 but I really don't know what to look for besides the price!

Any recommendations would be SO-OOO-OOO welcome!

TIA,

Sorry - no advice here - I'm still sewing on my 1969 Singer Touch-n-Sew!

Glad to see you back again.  Hope you are feeling better these days.

Hey strawberryfine!

The last time I was at Walmart they had their sewing machines out (they usually only sell them in the early spring.. for.. I don't know why!  Cheesy )   At any rate, they had a nice Singer machine for 175.00, I think.  Looked like a good machine, and it also looked they there were several other bargains in the way of sewing machines.  (Sorry I didn't get a better look,  I was being pulled along by an antsy 3-year old  Tongue)

So... you might try Walmart!   Grin

By the way, good to see you around again!

You might want to ask Kissedbyfyre about a good machine. She practically serges for a living. And I've seen and touched her work, the serging is excellent.

Wow,
Thanks so much for responding!!!

I am SO-OO-OOO happy to be back and recuperating!

I looked at Wal-Mart and have found one I think I want.  I also did some web and book research on sergers and the one I found at WM has all the features I think I want for about $193.

However, I will ask KissedByFire for her recommendations, also.  Nothing like the voice of experience!

Thanks again, everyone.
I feel so fortunate to have stumbled onto this site; it is really filled with a grand group of people.  I feel proud to belong here!
