Paging Fraggle

Hi there Fraggle,
as you (correctly) suggested, here's the post about
Ozland

Let's talk some  Smiley

I haven't lived there, just went once for a trip, but it's my dream land. Did you like it there?

Hi greek_lady!

Sorry for the late reply, I have been busy and not checking this board a lot lately as I should have Smiley

Ahh, Ozland... where should I start? I first went there in  1999 to backpack around for a year, you know the drift; pick fruit, move on, waitress somewhere else, travel further... I did like it very much but I did not intend to stay for as long as I did. Now six years later I consider it my second home though Smiley

How long did you go for? Where in Aus have you been? (I have travelled from Tassie up to Cairns and various places in between) Are you going back some time in the future?

Glad to see you back here Fraggle Smiley

It seems you've been everywhere in Oz and you are immersed in the country, the ambience, the people...<sigh>
I wish I had known about WHV, and about travel for that matter, back when life was easier  Grin
I just spent three weeks there, three measly weeks  Cry But I loved every minute! I've only been to Syd, Brissie, the GC area and up to Cairns. Oh and Canberra. Luckily I went there during their so-called "winter". Really a laughable winter imho  Grin T-shirts and thongs (flip-flops). That's not what I call winter!   Shocked
I dream of going back there every time I think of Oz and whenever I daydream etc. I really liked it there. Cheesy Cheesy

Are you going back?

Wow, you travelled quite a bit in those 3 weeks! Those are big distances! Had to get used to that a bit when I first got there, and now back in Europe I have to get used to trips not taking at least 2 hours to get somewhere Smiley

I know, winter isn't much there. All the locals complaining it's getting cold and me waiting for winter to really kick in, then suddenly realizing it's nearly Spring again and 'winter' never happened. Must admit Melbourne can get chilly though (but not much more than that).

Yeah I will go back, not too sure when yet at this stage. Which place did you like best? Did you go outback at all? Seen any roos? (How could you not have seen any Smiley)

I had to cover as much ground as possible in those three weeks, I can never be sure that I will be able to go back!
I stayed clear of Melbourne, it's the 4th greek city the world over. I didn't want to go to a "greek" place I wanted to feel the difference. Cheesy Cheesy Besides I couldn't really fit all in and Canberra was just a day visit from Sydney.

Didn't get to the Outback at all. Next trip (hopefully). I was booked on a two day tour for the Undara Lava Caves up North but they called me in the last minute that it was full. I was sorry because didn't have much time left to reschedule. Undecided
Also I really want to do the two trains the I-P and the Ghan. Have you done one of those trips? ??? I have to save like crazy to be able to do those  Undecided  Undecidedso not very probable.

I love koalas, always have. I liked roos too. Hated the crocs though  Grin

What was the best place of all you've been Down Under? What do you miss most?

Very true, Melbourne sure is full of greeks. I loved it (but I'm not greek Wink), it had a great atmosphere, lots of good people and lots of art (on the streets, museums, bands in pubs etc). If I'd have to live in any city in Australia, I'd go live in Melbourne. In fact, most of my friends live in Melbourne.

No, I didn't get to do the I-P or the Ghan. Not sure if I would either, I'd probably prefer to try to hitch-hike the distance (get to meet more locals that way). Heard it's supposed to be a good trip though.

Wow, you've seen crocs? I didn't! You must have fitted so much in your 3 weeks. I did see lots of other native animals though and I like all of them (yes, including the snakes)

Hum, which place did I like best, now there's a tough one... As far as cities go I loved Melbourne (as you might have guessed  Roll Eyes), as for the country side I'd say the forests (cool temperate or rainforest doesn't matter Smiley Oh! and Tassie! Loved Tassie.
If I'd have to give someone a suggestion as to what to go and see, I'd say go bushwalking.

Once again, sorry for the very late reply Smiley

Thank you fraggle for answering  Smiley
Hey, we are not on a schedule here! We follow so many schedules in our daily lives, don't you agree? You can answer whenever you feel like it, if you feel like it.  Cheesy

It seems that you like the "greener" places, like forests and Tassie. I am more into arid places, wide open empty spaces, like what the Outback must be, but didn't go there.
I very much want to have a "dinner under the stars", they do those by Uluru. Have you been there? Or a tour around it riding a Harley, they do those too Grin
Next time... <sigh>
So much for next time!

Thank God I didn't see ANY snakes or spiders!! I hear it's one of the worst snake years this year! You got out on time! There's so many dangerous species in ozland, flora and fauna!!
