Does anybody have a snood crochet pattern?
Jan 22nd, 2005 at 2:12pm

I was wondering, does anybody have a pattern for a crocheted snood, or know where I might find a pattern?  Or even one for a bun cover?  I don't think I'm good enough at crocheting to make up my own pattern.  For that matter, has anyone heard of a way to knit a snood?  Thanks! Kiss

Doing a Google search on crochet snood pattern, you will get several options.

I find Google a dangerous tool.  I tend to hunt out EVERYTHING it offers and then I become obsessed with the information.   Grin

It can provide hours of fun!

My mother knitted me bunches and bunches of bun covers in all different colors when I was in school way back in the 1970s. My mother got the instructions out of knitting book, unfortunately I don't know how to knit and my mother is gone now but I'm still wearing the bun covers (that is when I get up the energy to put my hair up).

(New here and working my way through 'historic posts' LOL)

As somebody who went to school in the 1970s I remember girls wearing bun covers (known as bun bonnets in the UK) a lot then. Though if you think about it there were no scrunccis then so a bun had to be held up with pins.....

The fact that ones your mum made then are still in use by you suggests that she made them well and that your taste in colours hasn't changed much (also that they still fit your hair)

Strange how images come back to you. I rember doing amateur dramatics late in the 1970s (hey it was even Oklahoma) and one of the girls had long hair. For the dress rehersal she had it all tucked up under a wide-brimmed straw hat. When I asked how much of a pain it would be if I knocked her hat off (OK, so I was in my late teens then, we were ALL a pain in our late teens) she said 'none' and with a flourish took her hat off. Under it she had it in a very neat bun with a bun cover - looked adorable on her with the period dress now I recall!

I have one here for a bun cover:
http://www.longlocks.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=longlockslounge;action=disp...

And Lisabelle has one in her journal.

Here are some snood patterns that are on my list to try:
http://home.inreach.com/marthac/snood2.html
http://home.inreach.com/marthac/snood1.html
http://www.knitting-crochet.com/crochet/persno.html

I think the last one can be a nice pattern to start with - I was going to omit the bow since that might look odd these days.
