Tea Rinse for reddies
Jan 10th, 2005 at 7:48pm

I tried something different last night, and I thought I'd share.

I recently bought a box of Begelow brand "Orange and Spice" tea.  It's a lovely and fragrant tea, 100% caffeine free, and FAB!  I was reading the ingredient list (which is all natural, I might add) and noticed that is has rose hips and hibiscus flowers in it, and I think I read somewhere that those flowers can deepen the red of redhead.

So I brewed up a big glass of it, let it cool, and then put it in the fridge, and used it as a rinse after my normal routine..

My hair smells HEAVENLY, is soft and shiny, and I could swear it looks redder today than yesterday.. *smiles*

I have not tried this myself, but I imagine Rooibos (pronounced Roy-boss) would give you quite a red rinse.  It's natural, you can buy organic from Trader Joe's grocery stores and its very good for you.  It tates slightly medicinal and has a beautiful deep red color.
There's another tea out there called "Red Zinger", can't remember who makes it-celestial something or rather that is also red.

I've GOT to try this!!!

Thanks for posting this.

Does anyone else use red wine vinegar in their vinegar rinses?  I've been doing this for almost a year now and I think it makes a difference.  Anyway, it comes in a prettier bottle and the red color is lovely!

Hmmmm I'll have to try this.  I've just been using ACV-I have old red highlights mixed in with the golden ones so I want to emphasize the reds.

Babyfine,

Oh, do try the red wine vinegar.  I think you will like it. It seems to bring out the bit of red I have and leaves it soft and shiny.  I buy mine at an Always Save Supermarket and it is not expensive.

Haven't tried this, but read somewhere that a strong hibiscus tea will enhance red hair, too.

HTH,

Thanks SF!  I'm going to try it with my next vinegar rinse!  I bought some the other day.

I have tried the Panteen Prov for red heads and it works as well to add more shimmer to your red. Mine was becoming a brown and it bounced right back.
