Lighter oils

Hi to all my fine-haired friends,

Can anyone recommend any oils that are lighter than jojoba oil for oiling fine hair?
I'm having some problems with jojoba and I think it is because my hair is too fine and gets weighed down. I don't use even 1/2 drop; I can just wave the jojoba oil bottle in front of my hair and it starts acting all freaky.

Also, do any of you just not use oils at all? I'm really considering that. Any input on this would be so appreciated! This is really driving me nuts! Shocked

Hiya! You are probably going to think I'm repeating myself because I've said this in some other posts just a few minutes ago. (Every morning I go through the 10 most recent posts and I've only just gotten to this one now.) Sorry to be repeating myself! LOL Roll Eyes

I personally find that coconut oil is the lightest of the ones I've tried. It's brilliant for my very fine hair because of this. I usually only use it after I've gotten out of the shower and occasionally before bedtime if necessary. Just a few drops and it'll absorb like a dream!

Although it's possible to OD on it if you use too much, it washes out so easily, it's not a problem anyway.

You may not need the oils. If your hair is in good condition, and well moisturized, it might not be able to absorb the oil. As your hair gets longer, the ends might need a little extra help and the oil can be used then.

You could use the oil for deep conditioning - putting it on rather heavy, put a heated towel on your head and relax! Then shampoo your hair.

How do you heat a towel? ??? I keep seeing it come up again and again that when you do a deep conditioning treatment that you should wrap your hair in a hot towel. Like from the dryer? I've just never done that before and I was wondering how to!

Hey Rua!

Do you use the kind of coconut oil that solidifies at room temperature or the kind that stays liquid (fractionated, I think it is called)?

Bikerbraid, I'm going to check out your Australian Organics conditioner.

My bottom 2 inches is bleached and colored so I think I could use some kind of oil, maybe just on that part.

Does anyone use oil to detangle in the shower?

I've seen the solid stuff before...but I decided to try this one first - and it's pretty good! Have you ever tried the solid kind?

I've just never done that before and I was wondering how to!

To heat a towel - get it wet and wring it out, then put in the microwave oven (time depends on size of towel and dampness). Just be sure the towel does not get too hot - you don't want to burn your hands or head!

After wrapping the warm towel around your head/hair, then wrap another dry towel over the warm towel (to keep it warm longer).

If you don't have a microwave oven, you can soak the towel in warm/hot water, then wring out the water and put that on your head.

I generally use almond oil (cheap and plentiful here) or shea butter (got some as a gift) the night before a wash. /Kate

Bikerbraid, I checked out the Australian Organics and I couldn't find one without chamomile to which I am highly allergic. I need a sneezing smiley here-if you know of any w/o chamomile, please let me know.

And a big thanks, also to Rua! You have cleared up a great mystery for me and I am hoping this will be the oil for me;(fractionated or liquid)coconut oil. I couldn't find it locally so I ordered some about an hour ago.

I have only used the kind that solidifies at room temperature and find I like it better on my body than on my hair, unless I'm doing a hot oil.

Right now, I'm only shampooing and rinsing. I'll try adding back in with an oil-compatible conditioner. Then I plan on trying the liquid coconut oil. Some websites also called it Light Coconut Oil and it is supposed to be one of the lightest oils available.

i never tried coconut oil (which is considered light) but i have a mix i love: Huile prodigieuse of Nuxe. it's way lighter than jojoba (i use both). it's a multi-usage dry oil. but i have no idea if it's sold at all in the states.
the bottle says: borage 1%, sweet almond 5%, st john's wort 7%, and camelia 2% oils, vitamin E ...
it smells sweet. Kiss

exactly. they have a version with gold glitter in it as well.
just don't believe much of the sunprotection: spf 4 which means just spf 2 in practical use.
i find it way lighter than jojoba.
dunno if it's lighter compared to coconut, my bf is totally allergic to the smell. he's also allergic to this one's smell (sweet as i mentioned) so i just use it in my hair and sometimes on my hands. it's great too put it everywhere really but then jhe makes me take a shower Roll Eyes
