Compliment received

Yesterday at school, a cheerleader wearing a messy bun asked my how I did my updo. I was wearing a double braid bun, where a ponytail is split, and each part braided. The braids are wrapped around, the ends are tucked, then all is secured with hairpins.

I told her that she'd need longer hair to do it, and how I did the style. She said she wanted long hair, and asked for suggestions as to how to do a non-messy updo. I suggested she start by growing out her layers.

I really think that the popularity of the messy bun is a result of layers - you can't do a neat bun, or sometimes even a ponytail, depending on how short your layers are. Yet layers always fall in your face, so you keep trying to put the hair up and out of the way.

I'd like to start a local long hair club someday, to get teenagers a good start on proper hair care.

Congrats on the compliment.  We can educate one person at a time.

I participated in a "hair class" for the youth of my church once.  We had a lot of fun.  There were 3 of us that showed the gals different ways to style their hair.  We had a lot of fun.  I did buns and braids for those with hair long enough.  A number of gals decided to grow their hair long once they saw all the fun styles we could do.
