Long Hair at the Olympics
Aug 22nd, 2004 at 11:57pm

Being a former competitive swimmer, I LOVE watching the Olympics.  I am amazed at how many swimmers and divers have longer hair.  Even the volleyball (beach and indoor) players have long braids.

Just goes to show ya - you CAN have long hair and be active in sports.

I think the longest hair I have seen is Inge De Bruijn's  (Netherlands) waist length blonde hair.

Eek! My hair hates chlorine, and would split up in an instant if I had to do competitive swimming. I'm not an athlete anyway, but I suppose I would have to find a way to deal with my hair if I was  Smiley. I've always wanted to shave my head; maybe I would try it if I was an athlete?  Wink

Finally had a minute to see if I could find a pic - here's one of Inge with *dry* hair!

She's gorgeous, and look at the rock on her hand!

What does she compete in?

Ahhh, I've been busy watching the high-jumpers and whatnot. I guess she's learned by now how to put on a swim cap without ripping any hairs out!  Grin

Unfortunately I missed all the women's water events,  which are my favourite to watch. Sad But I did notice many of the women on the US softball team seemed to have longer hair.

I can't imagine being a swimmer and having to care for long hair at the same time, especially when you're in the water and training hard practically every day. That'd probably be the one condition under which I'd ever cut my hair short. Luckily for my hair, I hate to swim. Smiley
