Hair Survey!

Hey Folks:

Anais Satin is doing primary research on hair and dreams, hopefully to find some trends in hair dreamers. I'd like to get as many people as possible to answer the following questions. This will be a thread-based and human based survey (will ask friends in real life as well)
I can post a formal report when all is said and done, and the data is analyzed. Please help me out if you can!!

1. How often do you dream within the average week?
2. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being very realistic, how realistic are your dreams in general?
3. Are you ever aware of your hair while you're dreaming? If so, describe your most common dream-hair. Is it similar to your real-hair?

1. How often do you dream within the average week? Very seldom as I have chronic insomnia. I may dream once or twice a month.

2. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being very realistic, how realistic are your dreams in general? 8

3. Are you ever aware of your hair while you're dreaming? If so, describe your most common dream-hair. Is it similar to your real-hair? I do not remember ever having had a dream with hair a significant part of the dream.

4. Do you have dreams (both good and bad) that are specifically about hair? Do they seem random or do you see patterns? No

5. Have you had bad real-hair experiences in the past? Yes, several. In high school I lost most of my hair due to over processing for a perm.

6. How long is your real-hair today? Has it always been this length? Today it is hip length which is the longest it has ever been. Growing up it was in a pixie type cut as well as just before I started growing it out.

7. How occupied are you with hair thoughts in general? (on scale of 1-10, with 10 being paranoid) 6

8. Is your hair high, medium, or low maintenance? low

9. Are you happy with your hair's weight/length/thickness/fine-coarseness/color ? I wish it were the thickness and color that it was when I was 18, but the length it is now.

10. What is your age (or stage in life)? old (50-something)

I sometimes have dreams that I cut it or something. I once had a dream that it was full of nasty split ends. But this isn't very common.

4. Do you have dreams (both good and bad) that are specifically about hair? Do they seem random or do you see patterns? No

5. Have you had bad real-hair experiences in the past? I've gone in for a cut and had them cut WAY too much off. I once decided to dye it strawberry blonde (my hair is already light golden blonde) and it came out orangey yucky colored. I had to have it fixed by a pro. It damaged my hair and I haven't colored since.

6. How long is your real-hair today? Has it always been this length? It's at 21". It was probably 27-30 going up but it was shoulder length from about 15-28.

7. How occupied are you with hair thoughts in general? (on scale of 1-10, with 10 being paranoid) 7

9. Are you happy with your hair's weight/length/thickness/fine-coarseness/color ?
I like the color usually but I really would like to have brown or honey brown hair. I get sick of being blond, but I won't accept all the damage it would take to get it that way. I wish it were coarser too. I like that it is very thick, but it is also baby fine and damages easily.

I dream every night. If I wake up in the middle of the night, it is from a dream.

2. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being very realistic, how realistic are your dreams in general?

8 - Pretty mundane. When I was under stress, I used to have some wild and crazy dreams, but now, they fool me every time. Or maybe it's just that I accept what's going on in them as realistic at the time, and forget after I wake up.

3. Are you ever aware of your hair while you're dreaming?

Not generally.

If so, describe your most common dream-hair. Is it similar to your real-hair?

I don't commonly dream about my hair or anyone else's.

4. Do you have dreams (both good and bad) that are specifically about hair? Do they seem random or do you see patterns?

I don't recall any bad hair dreams in which I was upset. I do remember a dream where I realized that my hair had been cut, figured out I must have cut it, and then remembered doing it. But it didn't upset me in the dream.

When I woke up, though, I checked to make sure it wasn't true.

5. Have you had bad real-hair experiences in the past?

What longhair hasn't had a haircut that was only supposed to be a trim? But seriously, the worst haircut I ever had was not while my hair was long. I went to the same stylist as usual to get my bob trimmed, and after the blowdry, as usual, she took the little shaver to shave my neck, but this time she shaved the surface of the bob bottom. The next day I washed it, and it looked like one of those razor shags that are popular today, every hair stuck out, and in all different directions. Or maybe it looked like I was growing out a boy cut. I couldn't get it to do anything, and it took months to grow it out long enough to fix it. Thank god I'm past haircuts.

6. How long is your real-hair today? Has it always been this length?

It's an inch or two short of tailbone, depending on how you define tailbone. My tailbone is not actually visible in the mirror, so my hair is about 3/4" short of butt-crack length.

7. How occupied are you with hair thoughts in general? (on scale of 1-10, with 10 being paranoid)

8. Is your hair high, medium, or low maintenance?

I'd say medium at this point, I've been feeding it and giving it lots of treatments.

9. Are you happy with your hair's weight/length/thickness/fine-coarseness/color ?

I love my fine, silky hair, but sometimes I wish it was coarse, curly, or wavy, so I could do other things with it. It wants to slip out of many styles.

Clearly, I don't like my natural haircolor (darkest brown with white and gray), and I color it medium auburn.

Every night

It's about ear-length, as I have had it most of my life. Usually I'm not aware of it.

I sometimes dream someone is pulling my hair, when I'm chased I'm sometimes caught by my hair. Mostly anxiety nightmares of that ilk.
5. Have you had bad real-hair experiences in the past?
Not really, although I had to teach myself to style it so it always looked terrible when I was a teenager.
6. How long is your real-hair today? Has it always been this length?
About 18". I have mostly had my hair around ear-length, but I've had it shorter and have grown it to BSL twice.
7. How occupied are you with hair thoughts in general? (on scale of 1-10, with 10 being paranoid)
5, if you include thoughts about hair toys I'd say 7

I'm growing it, so I guess I'm not happy yet with the length. Otherwise I love my hair.

only if the dream is about my hair....then it is as it is in reality

Not very often. I'd go about how often I dream in a given month, which is about maybe two or three.

2. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being very realistic, how realistic are your dreams in general?
Fairly realistic. There are elements of pure fantasy, but generally they stick to the rules of reality.

3. Are you ever aware of your hair while you're dreaming? If so, describe your most common dream-hair. Is it similar to your real-hair?
No, I'm not really aware of my hair during dreaming.

4. Do you have dreams (both good and bad) that are specifically about hair? Do they seem random or do you see patterns?
No. I had one once about my hair, and it was long and a different colour than my natural hair. But that was several years ago.

5. Have you had bad real-hair experiences in the past?
Indeed I have. I have naturally spiral perm curly hair, and I got a spiral perm over that when I was 14 or 15. I had afro hair for quite a while.

6. How long is your real-hair today? Has it always been this length?

My hair now is about shoulder length. No, it hasn't always been this length. For a while, just before I got into the Army, I had hair down to my mid-back. Then I cut it super short...like 80's style Annie Lennox short, when I got into the Army. I kept it that way until I left about a year and a half ago. I decided then that I wanted long hair again.

7. How occupied are you with hair thoughts in general? (on scale of 1-10, with 10 being paranoid)
About a five I'd say. I am concerned with keeping my hair healthy, and keeping it manageable and frizz free, but I don't really care msot times what I put in my hair...so long as it's not glue.

Medium right now, because it's at an awkward stage of growth.

9. Are you happy with your hair's weight/length/thickness/fine-coarseness/color ?
No. I want it longer and I wouldn't mind a bit more volume. But on the whole, I'm alright with it.

Yes,if I dream about my hair it's my real life hair-long,straight & fine

I only dream at random about my hair,but it's almost always something bad!Like cutting my hair!

Yes,hairdressers cutting of much more than I asked for!

It's around 44'' ,it's the longest it has ever been.

I would say I'm a 6 (Having a very busy life with job/family/pets/garden........)

Probably 4. My dreams are strange. Sometimes the situation is plausible, but extremely unlikely. Like meeting Garth Brooks in Starbucks...but that's another story. Roll Eyes

I can't distinctly remember being aware of my hair in a dream, though I kind of have a deja-vu, edge-of-my-memory feeling that I have had a dream at some point in which I was aware of it...

4. Do you have dreams (both good and bad) that are specifically about hair? Do they seem random or do you see patterns?

I can't remember having a dream specifically about hair.

5. Have you had bad real-hair experiences in the past?

Nothing traumatic or worth mentioning, really.

It's currently waist-length, and has fluctuated between chin-length and where it is now since about 4th grade.
