Aveda products

Hi,

I anticipate being given a bit of a hard sell next Monday in terms of Aveda products. Does anybody have any experience, good or bad with their products. Any recommendations? Anything to avoid?

Thanks

M

I've only used the Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner.  I use them when I want to pamper myself.  They are a bit pricey for my financial situation, but my experience with those products has been good.  Maybe keep a dollar amount in mind that you would be willing to spend and keep to that.

There is another thread under this section that also discusses Aveda products  http://www.longlocks.com/salon/?board=products;action=display;num=1051514654

I can hardly wait to hear how your visit goes!

Hello,

I used Aveda's Madder Root Shampoo and Conditioner for years. Both products are marketed as being for those with red hair/helping to preserve the red in hair.

I have fine, dry light red hair. I would say that neither of those products left my hair feeling particularly nice (the shampoo was drying and the conditioner was just kind of wrong for my hair.) However, I will say that both were very good at maintaining/enhancing color, which is why I used them for so long. My hair is its natural color - red - but it tends to get really bleached out in the sun, and I'm fighting some grays to boot. So, the Madder Root products did a pretty decent job of keeping the color looking nice.

It could be that the products would work fine, texture-wise, for somebody with a different type of hair than I have, or for somebody who doesn't live in a super-dry climate.

Good luck with the visit!

Christine

I recently bought several Aveda products and didn't care for any of them.  My opinion is that Aveda is an expensive "prestige" line and not much more.  You can find much better natural products for much less money, such as the Nature's Gate line, which is available at your local health food store and Whole Foods (aka Fresh Fields) supermarkets if you're lucky enough to have one close to you.  In fact Whole Foods has *tons* of fabulous natural ingredient hair products to try!

Although I really like some of Avedas Products, like the Curessence Cond.,they are not all that ''natural'' if you look at their ingredient list-rather the contrary-and that is a bit annoying, because it's for the ''natural'' hype people have to pay such a lot of money Wink

Yeah, I was shocked at how many of their products contain silicone.  I remarked on that in the other Aveda thread.

I love the Sap Moss Shampoo and Conditioner.  I can even use the shampoo without the conditioner on my thick curls (didn't know that it was owned by Estee Lauder though, and for some reason that's a bit disturbing).   Anyway, I read in another thread about jojoba oil.  Where can one purchase this?

I'll look into Nature's Gate this evening at Whole Foods.  (Very much out of my way, but outstanding quality and service at this store.)

Thanks! Cheesy

Jojoba oil can probably be purchased at Whole Foods.  Most natural foods and health food types of places have it.  You can also get it on line at a number of places.  Try to get the oil without other ingredients for the best results.

I have a few friends who work at an Aveda salon, and since they get all that stuff wholesale, I've tried most of their stuff. I think Aveda smells really great, but I don't really think it does that great of a job. I haven't found a conditioner that I like by them. Most of them leave my hair a tangled mess. And like someone else noted, they aren't as natural as they advertise. There's quite a bit of stuff in there i try to avoid most of the time.
I have tried the Clove shampoo and conditioner because it was good while my lowlights were growing out, but it wasn't that great.
If you can afford Aveda, I'd recommend the purefume shampoo, because the best thing about Aveda is the smell, and that one smells really nice.
