auburn with olive complxion
Sep 16th, 2003 at 3:38pm

Hi! Hope this area isn't for natural redheads only...I've colored my hair (for a while now) from a very deep dark black-brown to a much softer auburny shade. Suits me much more! I have olive skin, (though v. pale) ...just wondering if I'm only one like this. R more of u out there? If so, let's chat!

I don't match your combination, but my mother does.  Her hair was a drab dark brown until she started coloring it with an auburn color.  As her natural color has turned more grey (probably 85% now), the resulting color is becoming more red.  I really like the color of her hair with her olive complexion.  Not to mention it makes her look about 20 years younger than her 80 years! Shocked  Now if I could just get her to grow it long!  8)

how long does she currently have it? Odd how mom's are that way about hair, eh? My mom's hair is shoulder-length (just barely, though) and she won't consider growing it much longer (feels like she's too old for it Shocked)
Amazingly enough, she's even always after ME to cut my hair shorter! NOOOO Shocked! I have had very short cuts in the past (remember the mushroom look that was "in' in the 80's? I had it!)

Grin Her hair is in a "mushroom bob"!  Her hair still has a lot of body and is pretty good condition considering she colors it.  At least she doesn't do the perm thing as most of her peers do.  I think that is part of why she still looks so young - a youthful hairstyle and color.  She has considered growing it out a bit longer.  She would like to be able to put it into a ponytail, but her hair is fairly thin and she is afraid it would be too thin.  I keep encouraging her to give it a try - what has she got to lose?  At 80, I think she is entitled to do whatever she wants.

I think so too! I think she'd look great with longer hair! Aren't you inspiration enough?  Grin

My mother is not my strongest supporter for my long hair.  Undecided  But she does admit I know more about keeping hair healthy than she does, so at least she does listen to me in that area.  She would prefer my hair be no longer than shoulder length.  Oh well  Tongue

Lucky for me, my Mum supports whatever decisions I have with my hair (just as long as I don't TALK about it too much  Wink)! She didn't say a WORD when I cut it short and experimented with coloring and blow dried all the tiem, but when I expressed my wish to grow it long and healthy again, she was overjoyed  Grin! Her face doesn't suit long hair but she loves it so she lives vicariously through me!

I'm glad your mother admits that you know how to keep hair healthy! My mother always comes to me for advice too, and so do all of my aunts... they also come to me to get their hair done (braids, updos, etc) and call me Leia Salon  Wink

You really are lucky! Enjoy it for as long as i'ts there..my mom's face doesn't really suit the pixie cuts and short short hairstyles, but that's what SHE LOVES. So guess what I'm always being pressured to do....she won't admit that my long hair suits me much more than a short do!

That's a good attitude to have!

And I just realised I haven't answered your initial question. I'm sorry but I'd have to say that I don't like reddish tones at all with olive complexions, but only because I see so many Indian girls around here do it and it really really doesn't suit them  Embarrassed. It probably suits you, though! This is just my honest opinion!

Don't ever be afraid to speak yr mind...no-one here will shoot you, especialy not me...i agree with u, we actually see a lot of Asian girls out here in b.c. with dyed red/blond locks, totally doesn't suit them (except for when they do the tipping thing, love that). Hopefully our east indian gals out here won't do it too!

I actually like it when Asian gals dye their hair, as most of them are very pale skinned and sometimes their black hair can look too harsh! One Korean girl I know permed the bottom part of her BSL hair, and it looks just lovely in an orange-reddish color  Grin

What is tipping?

I agree sometimes the dark dark hair looks too "heavy" on them....I had the same problem, being 5 ft. 3", 125 pds.  I only don't like it when they dye ALL their hair some shade that's totally unnatural to them - like platinum blonde! Tipping is just coloring the ends of the hair, usually in a really bright shade...pink, red, orange or blue are the most popular out here right now. Also popular for "tipping" is to color very dark hair just at the ends a platinum or very bright blonde...the contrast is just gorgeous..maybe one day I'll get up enough nerve to try it myself!
