A wonder drug for dry or curly hair is coconut oil. You may rub a little bit of it into your hands and knead it into your hair and especially hair tips. It makes the hair glossy and sleek but not greasy.

Hi... I'd like to try coconut oil, but I'm not sure what to do with it! ??? You mention we can "also" apply it with our hands, which leads me to believe we take this coconut oil orally?? I'm really confused.

In this situation, the coconut oil would be applied with the hands to the hair. I do the same to my hair with jojoba oil.

I've never tried coconut oil myself. From what I have read it does work nicely on many people's hair. I have very fine hair, and it was suggested that the coconut oil would be too heavy for my hair. Jojoba oil is a very light oil that does not weigh my hair down.

Ohh.. okay. My hair isn't fine, although I have far less than I did a year ago. I tried the olive oil and egg mixture and it made my hair feel a lot better, so maybe the coconut oil would be a good thing for me to start with.

Where I live, all the native women use coconut oil in their hair. They actually keep it in all day, all the time. Since I live in a hot country many people have dry hair, so this helps their hair get moisturized and also stimulates their growth. I don't know any native women in this country who don't have hair to their waist or longer! In fact I think I just might have to try this... my hair is dry and is taking so long to grow!

Oh, how very cool! Wow, Indian women have such BEAUTIFUL hair, and now I know why!
Well, okay. I guess we can give some credit to genetics as well.

You're right! They do have wonderful hair. It's black and silky and long! Not many curlyheads though. In fact a lot of men (in rural villages of course) marry women because of their gorgeous hair! Haha they have a lot to learn
. But I got cheated out of the beautiful hair deal! My mother is Pakistani, and wow she has gorgeous hair! It's black and straight, and my dad has black, straight hair too, and he's Indian! Don't ask me why, but my hair is wavy and brown. Haha! I hate it when it's this short! But when it's long it's the envy of my whole family who can never get their hair to grow long!

Yes,I have to agree!Indian and Pakistani women have some of the most beautiful hair in the world.I was born in Kenya,and as there is a large Indian/Pakistani community there,I remember admiring the long,shiny hair of the ladies even when I was a small child.I always wanted to have hair like that when I was grown up.Well,my hairīs dark blonde,so that didnīt work out
-but I attribute the fact that I have long hair today to these early influences of long,natural hair.

Here's a thread where we discussed oiling methods:
http://www.longlocks.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=longhaircare;action=display...
;
and you can buy coconut oil at health food stores as well as online from soapmakers' supply sites. (I replied to your recent query on buying jojoba)
