Title: Back from the dead :P
Post by Joan-Ivy on May 11th, 2010 at 7:19am
Hello! :) My name is Johanna and I was active on these boards for about two or three years ago.  Now I'm 18 years old and these last years I've been trying new things with my hair: chopping it into layers, teasing and styling it for parties and a musical that the performing art students at my school take part in and so on...  ::) Haha, new hair- new person- new introduction. :P I'm glad to be back here since I remember that people always were so kind and helpful and now I'm going to try and get my hair back in shape. There are split ends, layers (as mentioned) and it's simply too short for my taste. Woo for a challenge right?  :-?

Love ~ Johanna

Joan! I remember you, chica! Great to see you here again. :)

Sounds like you definitely have your work cut out for you in the restoration department, but we're all here to help. Love your icon, by the way.

Welcome back!

Thank you very much!  :)

Haha, I remember all of you too Angel. :D And thank you, it's from a circus themed party. I tried getting a free drink by juggling for the bartender but he didn't fall for it.  ::)

Welcome back, Johanna.  Do you have a length goal in mind?

Off with the split ends!  Then I suggest starting with very regular and frequent (as in weekly) deep conditioning treatments for awhile.  Are you using sulfate free shampoo/conditioner?

Which musical are you doing?

Yes, I know I have too. But it's painful because there are split ends in the shortest layers too so I'll have to cut so much off . *snivel* My goal-lenght will be maybe an inch past waist. I had just gotten to tailbone a couple a few years ago but then I felt like I'd had the same haircut my entire life and... Yeah. But my hair looks best at waist-lenght me thinks.  :)

I don't know, I use Body Shop's honey products. Is there an ending (like -cones) for sulfates to look for? Thank you for the tips!

We did Jekyll & Hyde.  :) It's not a very famous musical, but I think the music is really good, it reminds of a cross between Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera and rock. It was an amazing experience, but the two weeks of performances (=hairspray and teasing) just slaughtered my hair.  :-/

I sang "Someone Like You" for a recital a few years ago.  Great song!!  Last year I did "The King and I" and used a mousse to turn my hair black, and put it put in a braided bun on the top of my head.  To mitigate the damage I applied cassia treatments (they last about 4 weeks so I only had to do it twice during the 30 show run) and a deep conditioner once a month.  It really helped.  Also, I use products for curly hair which are very moisturizing.

If its too much for you, take half of the damage off at one time and then the rest later.

Just look for the word sulfate (Sodium monododecyl sulfate; Sodium lauryl sulfate; Sodium monolauryl sulfate; Sodium dodecanesulfate; dodecyl alcohol, hydrogen sulfate, sodium salt; n-dodecyl sulfate sodium; Sulfuric acid monododecyl ester sodium salt;).
