Title: Is my forehead too wide for no bangs? Post by Katherina on Jan 10th, 2010 at 9:22am
Is it possible that my forehead is too large for me to look good without bangs? It is a bit wide, I'll admit, but I think with the right style, everything will turn out fine. I've always had bangs, and, frankly, I'm sick of them!
Every time I want to grow them out, my mom talks me out of it, saying that it doesn't go with my face shape (specifically, my forehead). Any suggestions? What styles work well with larger foreheads, along with prominent facial features? |

I say if you're tired of bangs, grow them out. You could try a deeper side part or a center part, if you're looking for a different look with minimal fuss. After all, it's your hair, and you're the one taking care of it. If bangs aren't on your "love" list, then begone with them. ;) Just play around with styles and try to find something that you feel fits you and your hair.

It's your hair, and you should do what you want with it. Try some other styles and see if you like them. You could try a side swept bangs style while they're growing out, or pinning them back with barrettes to see if you like a look without bangs.
Also, you might try talking to a hair stylist about what styles go with your facial features. Getting it professionally done might help when you're explaining to your mom why you want to change your bangs. A good hair stylist that really knows how to give a person a flattering style can make all the difference. A word of advise from my own experience: these people are not usually found at discount places like Fantastic Sams or Supercuts. I've found that you get what you pay for when getting a hair cut. HTH. Good luck! Let us know what you end up doing. |

Copy what everyone else has said. It's your hair, etc. etc.
I have a large forehead and no bangs. Throughout my childhood, I had the same haircut and by the time I was 12, I wanted a change. By 17, I had grown out bangs and slanted sides and had reached a consistent length all over. Been that way ever since and I'm quite glad I did it. Good luck with whatever you decide. |

I have a high and wide forehead and I do not wear bangs. People have told me I should wear bangs because of my forehead. I am not sure why people insist on this since I am the one who has to wear my hair and be happy with it.
In history there have been cultures favoring, large, high, wide foreheads. It was thought that the larger the forehead the bigger the brain resulting in a smarter person. What I am trying to say is you should do what makes you happy even if others try to talk you out of it. I would suggest wearing your hair so you have to pull your bangs back showing your forehead and wearing your hair that way for a while to see how you like that look. Also, you could grow your bangs out and wear a side part coving part of your forehead. I am probably bias about this topic, but I feel that how I wear my hair, is up to me. People can suggest things and put their two cents in but in the end, I have to make the final decision. I do not think you would look bad without them, silly, or any of that. People are beautiful because they feel beautiful and I am sure you are. I wish you the best. Tell us how things turn out. :) |

Hi, Brunette85, I have a high, wide forehead, too, and a good-size nose, and have never worn bangs because my hair is wavy/curly and very fine. If you wear your hair up, it can balance the forehead, especially if you wear it on the crown of your head.

Agree with everyone else. I've also got a relatively large forehead. I've had and not had bangs and sort of have bangs now. I'm also a moody so that's what I let dictate what I do with my hair! I have a SIL who has an even larger forehead who refuses to wear bangs; Comfort issue. Styling can balance a lot of things but some of us have ten thumbs so a "corrective" cut is an option for some, including myself, without losing bottom length in the back.
True about the historical and cultural aspect. It's your hair and you have to be comfortable with it. I see no reason why someone with waves or curls can't rock bangs. I like the look even better than the straight bangs look>>> the greener grass. |
