So ridiculous!  It's a pretty common style for young boys like that to be that long.  Remember the bowl cuts of the 80's like the youngest brother on Family Ties?

I'm hoping enough people raise such a stink that the school board lets him back early AND changes the policy.  I mean, c'mon... he's 4 years old, for cryin' out loud!!!   >:(

Yeah...this could really kill any motivation the youngster might've had.  The priorities are all wrong. 

I wonder how many boys were suspended from school in the 70s?

"According to the district dress code, boys' hair must be kept out of the eyes and cannot extend below the bottom of earlobes or over the collar of a dress shirt. Fads in hairstyles 'designed to attract attention to the individual or to disrupt the orderly conduct of the classroom or campus is not permitted,' the policy states."

Sounds like a military school.  Is hair really disruptive?  I'd better keep mine under better control, then.  No more wearing it loose for me.  Don't want to cause a riot.

It's pretty crazy!  This also recently happened to some celebrity...can't remember who.  She was homeschooling, but when she recently sent her child to school they were informed that his hair had to be cut.  Gosh, I really wish I remember the celebrity.  The kid looked a lot like Michael Jacksons son blanket who also has long hair.  Anyway in the end, the mother left it up to the child.  He could either go back to homeschooling or cut his hair.  He cut his hair. 

Personally, I like long hair on (some) men and as long as it's clean, people, including students should be able to do what they want with it.  Hair is a part of your body.  It's so funny how people like to dictate what you can or should do with it.

Just like that teacher who cut that little girls braid recently.  Imo that was so utterly wrong on every level.  Some people say that "it's only hair" and granted, it will grow back.  However, if someone cut's your hair without your permission  or even your being aware of it, to me that's assult.  I'm not talking about salons though, as going is an option... or risk that you knowingly take.

I agree that it's mostly ridiculous to enforce that kind of restriction in a school. Especially for children of such a young age.
My two thoughts on the matter are, though...
1. Hasn't anybody told this kid that Locks of Love is a scam??
and
2. I suppose they are viewing long hair in the same light of very short skirts for girls or other inappropriate wear, such as flip flops, hats, excessive makeup, or tank tops for guys or whatnot. I know that many schools have similar restrictions, but mostly for clothing. Hair, since it's not a change-it-on-a-whim thing, seems kinda silly to regulate though.

I've been reading about this story on other forums, too. The sad thing is, everybody keeps chiming in about how the school is violating some sort of right the kid has to long hair. Unfortunately, they are all forgetting that at school, kids literally DO NOT have any rights. They have no freedom of speech, no protection from search and seizure, they cannot bear arms, and all sorts of other rights that are literally waived at the door. It's the price of public education, I guess.
