Title: Texturizer Post by Hanabi on Sep 5th, 2009 at 5:12pm
I'm still trying to get my hair growing and I want to stop using the extensions, so my mom suggested a "texturizer". It supposedly "loosens" my nappy curls, but I'm a bit skeptical... I don't want to use chemicals, and it said that there's a risk of HAIR LOSS if misused. D: Isn't it the same as a relaxer and won't it damage my hair even more? I'm not sure of what to do.

Sorry, I don't have experience with that, but I'm sure some of our other members can shed some light on the subject.

Hi, I'm that "other member". ;D
I put a relaxer in my hair and yes, if misused you can damage your hair or have hair loss, depending on the degree of damage. Texturizers are not as strong as relaxers however, they still carry risks. People who color their hair with chemical dyes or use other chemicals on their hair, are mainly the ones at risk of relaxer or texturizer damage. As well as those who keep it in their hair too long when applying. Just be sure to carefully read and follow the instructions. Also, read and take heed to the warning section. If you apply it as instructed, you should be fine. If you can find someone with experience to do it for you, that would be even better. Now, if you don't want to use chemicals, you can try pressing, flat ironing (not daily), or just learn how to take care of your hair and wear it in it's natural state. There are lot's of hair sites that offer support to those growing out their natural hair. Good luck with whatever you decide! :) |
